Grammy award-winning Reggae artist Koffee continues to make history. Her song Toast has long surpassed 100 million views on YouTube making her the only Jamaican woman to reach that mark with one music video. The breakout single from her Rapture EP, released by RCA Records in 2019, has now reached 175M views on the platform.

Speaking about the success of Koffee and other women in the industry, Daddi Barnz, manager to Chronixx, told DancehallMag via World Music Views that “the greatness was destined and everything was perfect timing for her (Koffee). She is where she is right now and still growing into a bigger music brand and as a performer and recording artist.”

The 21-year-old, who has been on Rihanna, Kyle Jenner, Michelle and Barack Obama’s playlists over the past few years, has again made the former US President’s Summer playlist in 2021 for her collab with Protoje on Switch It Up.

This is the fifth time that Koffee has appeared on the President’s playlists, which he has previously credited his daughter and “family music guru”, Sasha, for helping him to curate. Koffee has also made Obama’s Favorite Music Of 2020 playlist with Repeat, a collab with J Hus; Obama’s Summer Playlist Of 2020 with Don’t Walk Away, a collab with John Legend; and finally Obama’s Summer Playlist of 2019 and Favorite Music Of 2019 with Toast.

Protoje tweeted his gratitude to Obama today and wrote, “Thanks for featuring ‘Switch it Up’ ft. Koffee on the Barack Obama summer playlist”.

Reggae legend Bob Marley is also featured on the 2021 summer playlist with the iconic hit song, Exodus.

The three are the only Jamaicans featured this year on the coveted and diverse playlist of 38 songs, which includes Good Days by Sza, Didn’t Cha Know by Erykah Badu, Neighbors by J. Cole, Wants and Needs by Drake ft. Lil Baby among other classic hits like If You Really Love Me by Stevie Wonder, Allure by Jay-Z, and Tumbling Dice by The Rolling Stones.

Adding to the recognition by celebrities and the popular President, Koffee recently won Song Of The Year at the local JARIA awards and Outstanding International Song at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards with her timely summer anthem Lockdown. The Dane Ray-produced song, along with W featuring Gunna, Pressure, and its remix with Buju Banton, were the only new singles from the Spanish Town native since the Rapture EP won the Best Reggae Album Award at the Grammys in 2020.

Barnz said it was the best thing for Koffee to have dropped an EP and not an album because she has given people a taste of her body of work without over-saturating the market. “As with any new product you don’t want to overwater the market. In terms of reach and engagement and achievements, that project is still going well for her today. I’d say she did the right thing,” he said.

He further commented that the women in Reggae-dancehall music are doing remarkably well.

“The balance in there now and even Spice showing that she can use the media and the medium to expand her brand. She has her Spicy Couture and she is on Love And Hip Hop. That shows that the women are positioning their brand in a way that can sustain their team and family.”

He said the formula Spice uses can also be modeled by other artists.

“Spice show a formula and others out there can look at what fits their lifestyle and do it correctly,” Barnz said. “Spice knows when she is Spice and when she is Grace and she never gets it twisted. Younger female musicians can learn from that woman.”

Spice’s hit song So Mi Like It is currently at 99.2 million views and her latest song Go Down Deh with Shaggy and Sean Paul has surpassed 18 million views on YouTube.

Her debut album, TENwill be released on July 30 while Koffee has indicated that’s she working on her debut full-length project.
