Busta Rhymes, Bounty Killer, Popcaan & More React To Vybz Kartel’s Privy Council Appeal
As incarcerated Dancehall hitmaker Vybz Kartel readies his case for appeal at UK’s Privy Council, several industry players have rallied with support for the artist. Producers, media agents, and artistes shared encouraging sentiments for the Gaza strongman, including long-time friend and collaborator, Busta Rhymes.
The Flipmode founder who has Jamaican roots attended Kartel’s murder trial in 2014 and has visited him in lockup since then. Rhymes previously lamented that more Dancehall artists weren’t supporting their embattled colleague, however, quite a few members of the dancehall fraternity have now spoken out.
On Instagram, Rhymes reposted a news clip confirming that Kartel’s appeal was approved set to the music of their newest collab, The Don & The Boss.

Veteran deejay Bounty Killer wrote to his former Alliance cohort, “God over all things youth, he never sleeps.” Gaza protege Popcaan also chimed in with “Azim the G” for his mentor, prompting requests for a joint track between ‘father and son’ once he’s freed.
Others showing solidarity included Kartel collaborators like Squash, TeeJay, Demarco, and newcomer Shaneil Muir who summed up their enthusiasm in emojis.
Supporters also included dancer Zidan Xclusive Blacka Di Danca, as well as new Gazanation siren, Lisa Mercedez.
Vybz Kartel and his co-accused have been granted leave to prepare and submit their appeal documents for consideration by the Privy Council. The teams have a 90-day window in which to do so, and intends to challenge the admission of evidence and breaches of the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.
Kartel has been serving a life sentence since April 3, 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. If the final appeal court does not exonerate the four murder convicts, Vybz Kartel will be eligible for parole in 2046.
