Spice

Spice, whose real name is Grace Layota Hamilton,  has
been making music since 2000, giving her ample time to collect a
dedicated fanbase and to have a number of collaborations, acts with other artists, and work with several labels. Her debut song was the controversial “Romping Shop,” which she did alongside Vybz Kartel in 2009.

Her very first debut was in 2000, at the annual Sting festival. This was her first major performance, and from there she earned a reputation for her
ability to perform, even if she didn’t quite have a hit record to show for it.

Spice began to tour around the world, and while she was in the UK, she managed to collaborate with Dave Kelly. This began a series of collaborations that hasn’t stopped to this day.

“Romping Shop” spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart, peaking in 76th . However, due to the lyrical nature of the song, it
was banned by the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation. This didn’t stop the song from achieving fame elsewhere in the world though, ending up at number 9 on the 50 Best Dancehall Songs of All Time by Pitchfork, as well as Billboard’s “12 Best Dancehall & Reggaeton Choruses of the 21 st Century.”
