Dancehall veteran Beenie Man and rapper Nicki Minaj were among those praising the Jamaican women sprinters, who swept the 100 meters race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan on Saturday.  Beenie and Minaj also seemingly shaded American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who was disqualified in late June, after she failed a drug test for a banned substance found in marijuana.

On Friday (July 30), Richardson, 21, posted a cheeky tweet regarding her absence from the Games on account of her one-month suspension.  “Missing me yet?” she wrote, which ruffled feathers and received a mixed response, according to Complex.

However, the finals on Saturday were far from underwhelming after defending champion Elaine Thompson-Herah broke an Olympic record that had stood for 33 years, and set a new Jamaican record time of 10.61 seconds to win Gold.  She was followed by fellow Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who ran 10.74, and Shericka Jackson, who ran her personal best time of 10.76.

Beenie Man, who is currently touring in the UK, took to Twitter after the win and wrote, “How wi fi miss yuh??? #Jamaica,” in a clear jab at Richardson.

Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj retweeted the Girls Dem Sugar‘s shady tweet and added her congratulations to the Jamaicans: “big up uno self.”

The Super Bass rapper followed up with another Tweet and IG Story that included photos of the winners along with the caption, “#QueenTingz u btchs can’t relate. And that’s ok.”

Nicki Minaj, who has always shown an affinity for all things Jamaica, added some patios ad-libs to a third Instagram story that praised the 100m Gold medal winner.  “Yes Goodie!!! @fastelaine,” she wrote before adding another swipe at Richardson: “Some stinkin gyal cyah relate.”

Fans have speculated that Minaj is still mad about old tweets that Richardson made, expressing her dislike for the rapper and her fans.

Meanwhile, as the jokes and memes caused Richardson’s name to trend in the aftermath of the finals, the sprinter sent her congrats to the Jamaican women who finished on the podium.

“Congratulations to the ladies of Jamaica for the clean sweep,” she wrote.  “Powerful, strong black women dominating the sport.”

In a release today, the Jamaican Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, said the sweep was one of the greatest achievements in the island’s sports history.

“My tears flow for a grateful nation. Jamaica leads the world in female sprint. I want to congratulate Elaine Thompson-Herah on successfully defending her Olympic title. She has made our small nation extremely proud once again, winning gold in a new Olympic Record of 10.61 and becoming the second-fastest woman of all time. I am overwhelmed,” Grange said.

The Minister added, “I want to also congratulate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on her silver medal. She worked very hard and she’s deserving of being on the podium.”

“I also congratulate Shericka Jackson on winning the bronze. Again, I have to commend her. She has really shone and she has really made us proud. So, for the second time in Olympic history, Jamaica has swept the podium places. What a great nation.”

Several Dancehall and Reggae entertainers have also shared their excitement and congratulations about the sweep, including the Queen of Dancehall Spice, Shenseea, Konshens, and more.
