Peetah Morgan’s Daughter Pens Touching Tribute: ‘Nothing Could’ve Prepared Me For This’

Late singer Peetah Morgan with one of his daughters Destiny.

Peter ‘Peetah’ Morgan’s 22-year-old daughter Destiny honored her father in a heartfelt tribute following his memorial service on Thursday.

The Morgan Heritage lead singer, 50, had his final send-off at Florida’s First United Methodist Church of Orlando, less than two weeks after his death

“Nothing could’ve prepared me for this,” Destiny wrote in an Instagram post. “I have cried so much since losing my dad. Yes, because I am saddened by him being gone so soon. But mainly because of the vast amount of love I realized I still have left to express.”

Her mother, singer Pashon Minott, had posthumously commended Morgan for mending his relationships with Destiny and sister Journey after years of accusing him of being an absentee parent. She shared that their daughters and his five other children were by his side during his final days.

Over a series of photos and videos, Destiny reflected on her relationship with her father, acknowledging that things weren’t always perfect.

“The early stage of grief is hard to push through and the denial is still very strong even in this moment,” she started. “It took some time for my relationship with my dad to get to where it was. But I thank God for the journey it took to get there, because although our experience with each other was unique, it turned out to be the relationship it was always meant to be.”

In many ways, she realized they were two peas in a pod.

“Being around my dad and having the chance to learn him beyond his artistry, gave me the chance to truly understand and appreciate him more,” she said. “I came to realize that my dad was not only an incredibly talented human, but he was charming, humble, full of life and so much love. He had a hilarious sense of humor and I see now where my siblings and I get that from. I also now understand why my mom would say, ‘yuh stay just like yuh fada’. We had so much in common.”

“More than anything though, my dad always gave me space to express myself without ever judging me or disregarding my feelings. He supported me in any and everything I wanted to do even when he didn’t really understand what I was talking about. He was very proud of me and he made sure I knew that.”

Not usually one for the mush, Destiny said the loss has reiterated the importance of doting on loved ones while they’re alive.

“I’m not one to usually say ‘I love you’ but this has made me realize now more than ever, to always tell your loved ones you love them, because you never know when the last time is. Even though I didn’t say it often, my dad knew I understood and loved him very much. I’ll miss you dad. Your jokes. Your infectious laugh. Your bright smile. Your beautiful voice and super dramatic personality.

“I’m so honored to be your daughter. I will continue making you proud. I will keep my siblings close. And I will be ok. I will miss you today, tomorrow, and everyday after. You did good, and your spirit will live on forever. I love you daddy, rest easy. ❤️🕊️”

In late February, Journey also dedicated a tribute to her father online, to the soundtrack of his group’s Down By The River.

“No words can express the devastation of losing a parent,” she wrote on Instagram. “I pray your spirit now rests Dad. I’ll forever hold the memories with you in my heart and soul. I love you forever and always Daddy. May we meet again.”
