Popcaan’s “gatekeeper” allegations against Solid Agency’s Sharon Burke seem to have been too much for Dancehall artist Teejay, who’s sprung from the sidelines with his own scathing remarks against the Unruly Boss.

The two artists have exchanged direct callouts and subtweets since Popcaan reeled off a series of allegations on Wednesday against Burke, whom he believed may have been trying to ‘sabotage’ his performance at the Burna Boy concert at the National Stadium in Kingston last weekend.  Popcaan, who also took aim at Shaggy during the IG rant on Wednesday, did not pinpoint why he was upset at the It Wasn’t Me singer.

On Thursday, Teejay, a member of Solid Agency’s roster of artists, had nothing but praises to sing for Shaggy, and Burke, whom he credits with saving his career, just when he was considering an exit from Dancehall.  In an 11-minute video posted to Instagram, Teejay explained how Burke saved him.

“Mumma [Burke] seh ‘Teejay, mi a stay far from Dancehall because most a dem artist ya, dem dunce.’ She seh ‘Wa you ago do inna di day ya?’ Mi seh ‘[get] Married’, mumma seh ‘Yaa f#@kin’ idiot? Yuh jus’ ago throw weh yuh life like dat? How much money yuh have?’ Mi seh ‘Eight thousand US’. Mumma seh ‘Yaa hear mi? gwaan down a Manhattan and you ago link a lawyer and you ago tek dat eight thousand US gi di lawyer. Mi gi di lawyer di eight thousand US and get a three-year permit fi mi self. Mi nuh have a dollar, and mi see dat woman borrow money from bank and gimmi and seh ‘Yow, don’t tek no show from nobody.’ Dem time deh when mi deh roun’ a Romeich, mi a get 8 thousand fi a show, 7 thousand, 6 thousand, man all a style wi, and Sharon seh ‘Don’t tek no show. We a bring yuh show dem go straight a 25 thousand US, straight a 30 thousand US. Just hold out,’” TeeJay recalled.

For the Uptop Boss Teejay, whose real name is Timoy Jones, Popcaan’s allegations against Burke were not only unfounded but are misrepresentations of one of the only genuinely invested executives in the music business.

Teejay went on to throw shade in Popcaan’s direction, suggesting that, unlike Burke, he does things for clout.

The From Rags To Riches singer even alluded to the idea that Popcaan was one of the artists gatekeeping in Dancehall, preventing younger artists from fully realizing their potential.

He explained: “Nuff a who unu see a gwaan like dem real inna music, dem nuh real. Nuff a dem dweet fi di internet. Nuff a dem dweet fi clout. Dem bwoy ya, once dem realize seh yuh bad to, bro, dem doh waa yuh bigga dan dem, bro. And di fake big, bro – look how much artist mi see dem build and kill same way bro. But unu cyaa kill mi. Mi already guh thru di gate and a dat a bun unu.”

Teejay highlighted Dancehall artists like icons Vybz Kartel and Mavado, Aidonia, Rygin King, Dexta Daps and Govana, whom he praised for embracing the generation after them. In the same breath, he shunned the established artists who fight those on-the-come-up, even suggesting that dynamics like those are why he was “blacklisted” from performing at the recently held Burna Boy concert, which was, in part, facilitated by Burke’s Solid Agency.

Refocusing, Teejay turned his attention back to Burke’s kindness in his time of need, passionately relaying, “Big up yuh self Sharon Burke, big up yuh self Solid Agency. When mi life inna problem and debt, yuh help and tek it out. And sometimes, it’s not the big things wa people do fi u, it’s the small, likkle piece that matters. Big up Shaggy! Yuh do song wid mi pon mi album, yaa real yute. Mi,” he emphasized, “can tek up it pon mi head. One team, one dream. Solid Agency mi seh!”

Shaggy and TeeJay have an upcoming collaboration titled Gyal Dem Time.

Popcaan seems to have caught wind of Teejay’s defense of Burke, and responded in a rather cryptic Tweet that may have also taken another shot at Shaggy.

On Friday, he wrote in a Tweet, “A wha do Shagg and Scoob?? #ScoobyDoo #Unruly #GIHE” – along with laughing emojis.

The names ‘Shagg’, short for ‘Shaggy’ and ‘Scoob’, short for Scooby Doo, are references to characters from the popular, long-running cartoon series, Scooby Doo.

Teejay seems to have fired back, tweeting yesterday (December 24): “The bwoy them a caption bad man, them only hot up di microwave”. The tweet was wrapped up with a popcorn emoji.

Meanwhile, the ball may be in Popcaan’s court, who was recently given an ultimatum to retract his allegations concerning Burke and his set at the Burna Boy concert.
