Dancehall veteran Red Rat is paying tribute to his beloved grandmother who has passed away.

On Sunday, the singer, 43, shared two heartfelt posts on Instagram in which he revealed that his grandmother, who he affectionately called “Mommy Phylis,” had died.  “My chest feels like it exploded and I can’t stop crying!!!!,” he said in one of the posts.

The Love Them Bad deejay included a series of videos and a photo in a second tribute to Mommy Phylis and called her “my dearest Grandmother, my precious Queen, the matriarch & the glue to our family.”

She “has peacefully transitioned to the next realm with the rest of our Guardian Angels. Although for my own selfish reasons I wanted you to stay with us forever, I know you lived a blessed 102 years on this planet,” the singer began. “You showed us what a beautiful spirit looks like, you made each and everyone of us feel what True and Genuine LOVE feels like.”

“You were always proud of us in whatever endeavor or whatever path that we choose, and I know that part of you we will all truly miss. My heart is broken because I am never going to see you dance again,” Red Rat said.

According to the singer, she was a big fan of his music and that of Reggae Queen Marcia Griffiths. “I am never going to hear you sing ‘That girl Shelly Ann‘ again and Buss out laughing,” he said.

“I am not going to ever see everyone in the family try to out dance you at every family get togethers. You were a true lover of music and I know you will always be leading the group of Angels in heaven right now with your favorite song of all time “The Electric Boogie” by my dear sister @marciagriffiths_queenofreggae.”

Red Rat, whose real name is Wallace Wilson, concluded the heartwrenching post by revealing that he and his partner Pascalli had only spoken to her yesterday. “I know you could hear us telling you how much we Love you, I saw you trying to answer back but I heard your spirit Mommy Phylis. 💔💔💔💔. Rest well my Queen until we meet again. LOVE YOU FOREVER.”

Mommy Phylis’ cause of death was not revealed.

Red Rats’ followers offered their heartfelt condolences in the comments section.

“Stay strong breda. Pray for strength and peace in Spirit and Faith! I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” one fan said.

“Stay prayed up fam. We are here for you. Nuff love,” another added.

Over the last year, several Dancehall artists have lost the matriarchs of their families, including Capleton, Shenseea, Beenie Man, Dancing Rebel, Black Queen, Shabba Ranks, and Mavado who all lost their mothers.
