Almost two hours before Christmas Day culminated, incarcerated Dancehall deejay Shawn Storm gifted his fans with an appearance on Instagram Live.

The account of the Gaza Empire deejay went Live with St Lucian singer MonCherie for more than 30 minutes, where the latter played songs at his request. If it was Storm and not a social media manager, he didn’t show his face nor speak, and instead typed his thoughts in the chat, all the while bearing a black background.

The artiste sent Xmas greetings and hailed viewers in the chat while MonCherie played her 2016 single Gates of Heaven which features Vybz Kartel. She ultimately got “bored” of the song and opted to play something else when Storm requested that she replay the Kartel collaboration. Throughout the Live, Storm requested music from Kartel’s catalogue, supporting the popularized belief that he is the embodiment of loyalty when it comes to the Worl’ Boss.

“Big up e boss to @vybzkartel yuhnuhknodatttt fullygaza,” he wrote.

MonCherie said it was her first Live for 2020, and she bubbled with excitement to be on Live with Shawn Storm, and swiftly adhered to his requests.

She also played another Kartel feature of which she forms part, Bay Bay, which was released in 2015. Storm asked her to increase the volume as she flaunted a “Gaza” tattoo engraved on her finger. Viewers also had the chance of requesting tracks, like Kartel’s Everyday is Christmas.

Storm eventually turned the spotlight on his catalogue, and asked MonCherie to play an unreleased collaboration with Shatta Wale called Juice. MonCherie seemed to miss that comment, but saw his request for their upcoming release, Find Me. She sang some of the track before being told by Storm to “nuh gi dem no more.”

MonCherie was among viewers who proclaimed that “freedom is a must” for the deejay. Storm, whose given name is Shawn Campbell, is serving life imprisonment for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. One of his co-convicts, Kartel, is also serving a life sentence. Storm will be eligible for parole after serving 22 and a half years, while Kartel will have to serve 32 and a half years to that end. The men are appealing to the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.

It was only in March that Kartel found himself in hot water after his account went Live on Instagram with producer/longtime friend Rvssian. During his account’s brief appearance, there was also a dark background and a male voice singing some bars from Tun Up Di Scheme. Kartel’s Insta-Live appearance, however, was sporadic and featured a voice, while Storm’s appearance was publicized through a broadcast before he went Live. There was also no sound from his feed, just his username adding comments.

Viewers chimed in on the account going Live.

“U online u think police know this?” one user asked.  “Shawn dem nah trouble yuh if dem hear it?”

“Come out of di dark.”

Others spoke highly of his character. “Most loyal friend,” said one.

“See how di man loyal, not even fi him own song him nuh waan listen. If loyalty was a person it would be Shawn Storm.”
