Shenseea

Shenseea was born as Chinsea Lee on the 1st of October 1996 at the Mandeville hospital in Manchester.  She grew up singing in her church choir from the age of 8 onwards, where she started performing Whitney Houston songs.

She describes herself as a shy girl growing up, but she didn’t let this shy demeanor stop her from becoming the star she is today. She originally worked as a promo girl before she started releasing tunes and came to our attention with a remix of Loodi by Vybz Kartel and performed it on a side stage at Reggae Sumfest.

She continued to build her reputation by appearing on a side stage at Reggae Sumfest 2015. She was then asked to return and perform on Sumfest’s main stage in 2017. Through her career so far she has collaborated with artists such as Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul on his single “Rollin” and Christina Aguilera in her song “Right Moves.”

In early 2019, she released a track called “Blessed” featuring American artist Tyga which was met with huge fanfare gathering over 2 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours and going on to have over 31 million views to date. Blessed reached number 2 on the Billboard reggae charts and the opening lines to the song “Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat, ah” are often lovingly mimicked by fans.

This song also raised controversy as one of the opening scenes in the video features Shenseea lying in bed beside another girl which raised some questions about her sexuality. This is something she has played this down though saying “it’s my friend and we just came home from a party — remember, best friends have sleepovers too … just for her safety, she slept over.”

Due to all this success, it is little wonder she has been labeled by many as the fastest growing dancehall artist around and yet more is sure to come.
