Koffee

She’s usually the littlest person in the room, reggae artist Mikayla “Koffee” Simpson stands only 5 feet and of a slim physique, as you can tell despite her retro Rasta and baggy style of clothing.  She’s hard to miss, and so is her voice. That distinct voice behind songs like Rapture, Throne, Blazin, Toast, Raggamuffin, Burning and Legend can be heard through the airwaves over and over again on any radio station in Jamaica and as far as New York, Florida and the UK to name a few.

Her journey to stardom has been a short one; fresh out of high school and at the age of 16, Koffee uploaded a riveting video of herself singing on Instagram, which went viral and created quite a stir in the reggae music community. This pivoted her career within months and in 2017, she released her first single ‘Legend’, a tribute to the illustrious Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. Her dreams would soon come to fruition, as she was later able to share the stage with Jamaican musical icons like Cocoa Tea and her idols Chronixx and Protoje. Also performing with them at several events in her local Jamaica and around the world at Rototom Sunsplash in Spain, Bush Hall and Alexander Park in London.

When 2018 rolled around, Koffee signed with Columbia Records, UK and her debut Rapture was released on March 14, 2019. Her single “Ragamuffin” earned her tremendous musical recognition and BBC Radio 1Xtra’s “Hot for 2019” artists. ‘Toast’, her next single that followed became a mega hit within weeks. Both Chronixx and Proteje were featured in the music video and a remix, created by Tory Lanez as a part of his International Fargo project, landed on millions of playlist across the globe.

With a string of successes in her untimely career, 19-year-old Koffee has compelled her presence on the music scene as one of the most influential, accelerative and globally appealing young reggae artist of today.
