Chronixx Says Koffee Has Inspired Him To Be More Exciting With His Music
Jamaican Reggae artiste Chronixx says he may be one of Koffee’s biggest fans as he revealed just how much the young Grammy-winning singer has inspired him with her infectious creativity.
“Let’s talk about how much of a fan I am,” Chronixx said of Koffee as he beamed with pride and joy during a recent interview with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning.
For Chronixx, such inspiration comes typically from older artistes who have already made an indelible mark within the industry, but it is different with Koffee. “She is making the best music of her generation already, even though her generation is not even really in their 20s yet,” he said.
“Koffee really made me a more exciting person musically, after seeing how she approaches her creativity, it was just like a breath of fresh air.”
Chronixx added, “whenever people used to tell me my music is such a breath of fresh air, it’s the first time I got to experience it from a artiste that was a few years younger than me. It’s just crazy”
In sections of the interview, the Likes singer was at almost a loss for words in explaining how proud he was of Reggae’s youngest icon, Koffee. “Before now, it was just the artistes older than myself or the more experienced artiste that I would get such a heavy inspiration from, but it’s such a beautiful thing to see it come from a young artiste in my time, in my generation.”
Chronixx’s latest single, Cool As The Breeze/Friday, may be one fruit of this new source of inspiration for the singer. The single radiates a similar island summer vibe found in Koffee’s Lockdown, which was released on July 17.
Cool As The Breeze/Friday will form part of his upcoming sophomore album, Dela Splash, which he says will be a “celebration of the festive side of music where everyone can understand and dance to.” Dela Splash is expected to be released later this year and will include the previously released tracks, Same Prayer and Dela Move.
Chronixx revealed that he never confines himself to industry limitations, instead, he aims to live in the full story of who he is. This he does by listening to intellectual journals, including numerology, to make sense of reality and humanity. He explained that he is a lover of heritage, hence his latest inclusion of elements of African sounds within his music.
Chronixx has collaborated with artistes such as Alicia Keys and Protoje, and he revealed there is unreleased music with Afro-fusion star, WizKid, but that will not appear on Dela Splash. With COVID-19 and travel restrictions, plans for a video had to be aborted for that track.
Chronixx, who hails from Spanish Town, became prominent in 2012 and has since released his album Chronology as well as popular songs such as Here Comes Trouble, Smile Jamaica, Mi Alright, Most I, Access Granted and Capture Land.
In 2019, Koffee’s five-track EP Rapture won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, making her the youngest and only female to be awarded in that category.
