Chronixx Announces New Album ‘Exile,’ His First In Nearly A Decade

Reggae star Chronixx is preparing a long-awaited return with Exile, his first album since his Grammy-nominated Chronology in 2017.
He announced the project during a performance on Sunday at Reggaeland 2025, held at the Milton Keynes National Bowl in the United Kingdom. During his set, Chronixx took a moment to debut a new song from the upcoming album. “This one is called Don’t Be Afraid, from the upcoming album Exile, coming this 2025 — believe it or not,” he said while strumming a guitar.
His 2014 EP Dread & Terrible and 2017’s Chronology both topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, with the latter earning him a Grammy nomination.
The new album Exile appears to be a spiritual successor to Dela Splash, a sophomore project Chronixx once planned to release but ultimately shelved.
During a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed that fatherhood — and the stillness of the pandemic — had reshaped his priorities. “Really, why I didn’t release the album was because of where I was in the journey of being a father to my daughter,” he said. “The pandemic was the perfect time for a father to be beside his daughter and also a good time to create.”
Several tracks from that era — including Dela Move, Same Prayer featuring Kabaka Pyramid, Freedom Fighter, and Safe N Sound — were released as singles.
Just before stepping back from the spotlight, Chronixx also released Never Give Up, his last solo single, in April 2022. And, he collaborated with British drummer Yussef Dayes on Pon Di Plaza in 2023, and with Runkus and producer Toddla T on Pretty Suit in June 2022.
Now 32, Chronixx has said that he’s matured into an artist unbound by genre.
“I would say now I am more on the Willie Nelson side of the spectrum, or more like a Bunny Wailer, Bob Marley, Burning Spear,” he told RS. “Reflective and bringing to the forefront the things that people are ashamed to talk about. Like, how are we doing, instead of the escapism mentality for your fans to exit reality.”
