Dancehall star Chronic Law was taken into custody in South Florida on Sunday night following a performance in Miami, according to jail records.
The entertainer, whose given name is Ackeme Jermane Campbell, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on July 5 and is being held for the U.S. Marshals Service.
A Broward County jail booking record lists the allegation as possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. The record also indicates that Campbell is being held without bond, with the U.S. Marshals Service identified as the arresting agency.
News of the arrest quickly spread across social media, prompting a response from the artiste’s management team.
Chronic Law’s manager, Alexandre “Bashy” Jones, confirmed that the team is aware of the situation and urged fans to avoid speculation while legal proceedings are ongoing.
“We are aware of the reports regarding Chronic Law’s detention in South Florida,” Jones said in a statement.
“At this time, I ask the public, members of the media and fans to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course. Our legal team is actively handling the matter, and I have full confidence that it will be addressed through the appropriate legal channels.”
Jones added that neither the artist nor his representatives would be commenting further while the matter remains before the courts.
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal proceedings, we will not be making any further comments at this time. I kindly ask everyone to refrain from speculation or the spread of unverified information while this matter is being addressed.”
He also thanked supporters for standing by the dancehall star.
“Chronic Law and our entire team sincerely appreciate the continued love, prayers and unwavering support from fans around the world. We ask for your patience as we allow the legal process to unfold, and updates will be provided if and when it is appropriate to do so.”
No additional details regarding the allegation or any upcoming court appearance had been released as of Monday.
