Reggae group SOJA has received a modest bump in sales for their entire catalog after their Beauty In The Silence album recently copped the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

However, it was not enough for the Grammy-winning album to re-enter the Billboard Reggae Albums chart dated April 16—where Koffee and Shenseea’s debut albums remain, Sean Paul holds three of the ten spots, and Bob Marley continues to reign at No. 1 for over two years.

The sales and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae chart ranks the ten most popular Reggae albums in the US, based on consumption metrics that are measured by sales tracker Luminate in equivalent album units.  Each of those units represents one album sale or 10 individual tracks sold from an album or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription streams from an album via audio or video.

On Tuesday, Luminate told DancehallMag that SOJA sold 1,400 equivalent albums units across their catalog last week, following the Sunday, April 3 Grammy Awards premiere ceremony—up from 1,000 units (38%) the previous week.

Of the 1,400 units, there were 300 in pure album sales (up 119%), 200 in digital song sales (up 371%), 1,464,200 in on-demand audio streams (up 26%) and 57,800 in on-demand video streams (up 122%).

Beauty In The Silence, which was released on September 24, 2021, via ATO Records, had previously spent three weeks on the Billboard Reggae chart, peaking at No. 2.  The Virginia-based band has over a dozen other albums including Poetry In Motion, Amid The Noise and Haste, Strength To Survive, Born In Babylon, and Get Wiser.

Koffee

Koffee’s Gifted debut, released on March 25 via Promised Land/RCA/Columbia, has dropped one place to No. 3 on the Billboard Reggae chart with 2,000 units earned last week.   This includes 200 in pure album sales, 400 in digital song sales, 2,202,600 in on-demand audio streaming, and 329,500 in on-demand video streaming.  It brings the Grammy Award winner’s two-week sales and streaming total to 5,500 units in the United States.

With its 18-track deluxe edition, which includes Toast, Rapture, and W with Gunna, Luminate had told DancehallMag that Gifted moved 188,100 units in total up to the week ended April 2, which included sales and streaming activity accumulated on the eight bonus tracks since 2019.  However, only Gifted‘s 3,500 first-week units were considered for the weekly Billboard chart.

The album, which had debuted at No. 9 on the UK Albums chart, has also dropped out of the Top 100 of the weekly UK chart, which is compiled by the Official Charts Company from sales, downloads, and weighted audio streams.

It remains at No. 20 on the Rap Airplay chart.
