Jamaican singer Shenseea has earned a Gold certification in Canada with Blessed, her 2019 collab with American rapper Tyga.  This is the first Gold certification for Shenseea in the US, UK, or Canada.

According to Music Canada, Blessed was issued the Gold Single certification on Monday, April 11, after it sold more than 40,000 units from digital and physical single sales and on-demand audio streaming in the country.   In Canada, 10 track downloads and/or 1,500 on-demand audio streams are equivalent to one Single unit.

Shenseea reacted with positive affirmations when told of the certification. “Thank you to God, my Shenyengz and my team. I am blessed,” she told DancehallMag.

Blessed‘s Arrad-directed music video has racked up over 58 million views on YouTube since its release on May 19, 2019.  It featured Shenseea in a few sultry scenes in Jamaica, while Tyga delivered his succinct guest verse.

The song had marked her major-label debut after she became the first Jamaican to sign to Interscope Records.

“I’ve always shared my gratitude to God and my supporters, I am blessed and grateful for them; and I think this song expresses that, not only for me but for others too,” Shenseea said of the song.

“It’s an empowering and confident song for everybody, I hope my fans will hear this and learn to love themselves for who they are and reflect more on their blessings all while enjoying the sound of good music.”

Blessed, which appeared on Shenseea’s debut album Alpha last month, was produced by Rvssian and co-written by Shenseea, Theron Thomas, Sam Sumser, Sean Small, and Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor.

It peaked at No. 2 on the discontinued Billboard Reggae Digital Song Sales chart, where it spent six weeks.  It also peaked at No. 33 on the Rhythmic Audience chart and No. 37 on the Rhythmic Airplay chart.

Alpha debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.  It featured other songs such as Can’t Anymore, R U That with 21 Savage, Lick with Megan Thee Stallion, and Henkel Glue with Beenie Man.

Shenseea, whose real name is Chinsea Lee, first made waves in 2016, with the release of her debut single, Jiggle Jiggle. Then came the breakthrough hit Loodi, her 2017 collaboration with Dancehall star Vybz Kartel.

In 2021, her two collaborations with rapper Kanye West earned her a Grammy nomination and her first entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
