Spice Touts “10” For Grammy Consideration

Queen of the Dancehall Spice is urging eligible voters to consider her debut 10 for Best Reggae Album, as the first round of voting at the 64th annual Grammy Awards ends tomorrow (November 5).

“Anyone you know that’s a Member of the Grammy board remind them to Vote for 10 #SpiceAlbum10 ✊🏿💙💙💙”, Spice, whose real name is Grace Hamilton, told her followers in an Instagram post today.

Only four females have ever been nominated in the 36 years since the first Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album (or Best Reggae Recording as it was once called) was presented.

If Spice earns a nomination when they are announced on November 23, she will join Koffee, who was the first and only female to win in the category with her Rapture EP (2020); Rita Marley who was nominated for We Must Carry On in 1992; Sister Carol for Lyrically Potent in 1997; and Etana for Reggae Forever in 2019.

The So Mi Like It singer has been a mainstay in the industry for the last 15 years since appearing on the scene with her classic hit, Fight Ova Man.  Named after the number of years it took her and VP Records to release it, 10 finally arrived on August 6 this year, the artist’s 39th birthday. She credits the project’s executive producer, Shaggy, for bringing her and the label together to resolve their longstanding issues.

Although sales and certifications aren’t considered by Grammy voters, 10 opened at No. 6 on the sales and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart with the equivalent of 1,447 total units. The 15 track album included songs such as Go Down Deh, a collaboration with Shaggy and Sean Paul, Send It Up and Frenz.

During an Instagram Live today, Spice continued to encourage her fans, who know voting members of the Recording Academy, to help her to secure their last minute votes. The Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta star also plugged her latest single, Condensed Milk, which was released on October 15, with dancehall star Cham.

The final round of voting for the 64th Grammy Awards will begin on December 6 this year, and end on January 5, 2022, while the Awards ceremony will return to the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Monday, January 31, 2022.
