Sean Paul Dishes On The ‘Surreal’ Time He Watched Paris Hilton, Britney Spears Pole Dance

Dancehall artist Sean Paul recently recalled one memorable and surreal moment of stardom, after he watched Paris Hilton and Britney Spears pole dance at an American Music Awards after-party.

During an interview on The Celebrity Search Engine podcast, the Temperature deejay was asked to share highlights or standout moments he’s had over the course of his two-decade-long career.  Paul spun the clock all the way back to 2006 when he ‘actually won’ the American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. To date, he is the only Jamaican artist to have won an AMA in that category.

In explaining why that was a standout moment, Sean Paul said, “Winning the American Music Award for the reason that not much Caribbean artist have been in that category at all, that was a huge one.”

He then quickly brushed over another accolade: “Of course Grammy’s as well,” before getting to the actual highlight of the night. “But after the American Music Award, I found myself in a very surreal situation that night,” he continued.

“Paris Hilton came and invited me to her party and I don’t mix with a lot of people always in the business so I was like ‘okay.’ I found myself in the party with Suge Knight on one side of me and Flava Flav on the other side of me, and Paris Hilton and Britney Spears was dancing on a pole in front of us…. And I was like ‘what is this day!’

According to Paul, it was moments such as those that have made him appreciate the journey that music has taken him on.  Having an AMA and a Grammy Award is great but watching the famous Hilton heiress and arguably the most popular pop princess at the time, pole dance for his up-close-and-personal viewing pleasure was just as great.

“It was nuts to me that music had taken me to such places and those have been some of the good highlights as in big accolades like the American Music Award or something that no one else knew happened after. It’s been an amazing ride and world wind,” he added.

Along with his American Music Award win, Sean Paul, who is regarded as one of the genre’s most prolific artists, also copped a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004 for his Dutty Rock collection. He has also won several MTV Music awards, MOBO awards, MuchMusic awards, Soul Train awards, plus an ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music award, Source Award and BET award to name a few.

Sean Paul’s catalog has earned him several Grammy and Billboard Music Award nominations, while he’s had 19 songs on the coveted Billboard Hot 100.

On Friday, October 22, Paul is set to release a new single Dynamite featuring Sia (Cheap Thrills) off his upcoming album, Scorcha.
