The Curves party which is slated for this Sunday (June 13) will be held despite the tragic passing of one of the event’s organizers, who was gunned down in Florida last weekend.

The management team responsible for Yanique ‘Curvy Diva’ confirmed to DancehallMag that the event is still happening, following initial reports that it would have been cancelled.

According to Curvy Diva’s management team, while the event will be held, it has been transformed into a memorial celebration for the founder of the party, Kevin Johnson.  The 37-year-old was found with gunshot wounds while sitting in his car outside of his apartment complex in West Palm Beach on Saturday (June 5).

“Though it is not the ideal circumstance, I am pleased that i will have the opportunity to celebrate Kevin’s life with family and friends at Curves this weekend,” Yanique told DancehallMag.

“It’s Tragic but he wanted the Curvy Diva there and since the family is going ahead with the event, I’m happy to be a part of the celebration of his life,” she added.

Curvy Diva’s manager, Janice Young, shared that in the event’s first staging  Johnson had reached out to her requesting that Yanique host the event, citing that her moniker matched the name of the event.

However, Young said that extenuating circumstances had previously prevented the collaboration from happening.

Young added that Curves, now in its eighth staging, would finally have as its host the Curvy Diva and would actualize the now deceased promoter’s long-standing dream for the duo to work together.

Several members of the South Florida entertainment fraternity have expressed shock and sadness at Johnson’s passing, describing him as a hard-working, jovial  individual, who had made it his life’s mission to promote Jamaican music.

“Kevin Onedon Millionz S.I.P my friend damn I just seen you, laughing joking, & talking about how you love your kids damn why 😩, ” said one Facebook user, in responding to news of Johnson’s passing.

“😭😭😭 WOKE UP IN TEARS 😭😭😭 Bro your smile , your laugh , hearing your voice , seeing your face again 😭😭😭😭😭 Kevin Onedon Millionz WAKE UP PLEASE 😭😭😭😭😭,” added another.

Johnson who was originally from Kingston, Jamaica migrated to the United States where he briefly studied  at the Palm Beach State College and later began his career as an entertainment entrepreneur
