17th March 2021 – The Usain Bolt Foundation today announced a donation of 150 laptops to schools in rural Jamaica.

Retired Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt has donated 150 laptops, valued at $40,000USD, to schools in rural Jamaica through his charitable foundation.

The eight-time Olympic gold medallist shared the news today in an Instagram post captioned, “The best thing about my life is being able to give back 🙏🏿 Happy to announced a donation of 150 laptops to schools in Rural Jamaica 🇯🇲”

The Foundation, in a release, said that these initiatives are “pivotal to honor his commitment in ensuring that the children of Jamaica benefit from his hard work.”

Bolt was quoted as saying, “The current global pandemic has forced many children to do only online classes and highlights the need for technology in schools. We will keep working to provide much needed equipment and support the education of the next generation.”

The Foundation focuses on children at the basic and primary school level, according to the release.  It continues to impact children across the country and that its caring hands will continue to ignite hope and assist, where possible.

Last year, the Usain Bolt Foundation donated printers and other supplies to twenty-one (21) Early Childhood Institutions in rural Jamaica and seven (7) schools in his home parish of Trelawny received computers or tablets.

In 2020, Bolt also donated medical equipment to the Nuttall Hospital in Kingston to assist in its COVID-19 response.
