Veteran Dancehall deejay Beenie Man is gearing up to release the single Fun in the Sun on his late mother’s birthday this Sunday.  The track, which features Popcaan and Dre Island, forms part of his upcoming album titled Simma.

The album was initially scheduled for release in spring, but ‘The Doctor’ said he’s changing the premiere date to the summer.

Beenie Man was speaking during an interview with Quarantini & Mimosas yesterday, where he teased the record in an a cappella performance.

He added that Simma will also bear other collaborative features, dropping names like Shaggy, Sean Paul, Busy Signal, Bunji Garlin, Shenseea, HoodCelebrityy and Anthony Red Rose.

The album was originally scheduled to be released on his birthday last summer, but experienced delays based on “personal unexpected challenges.” The entertainer’s mother, 63-year-old Lilieth Sewell, died in September after trying to recover from a series of strokes.

Though he has been locked in the studio fine-tuning his project, Beenie Man still has his eyes and ears on the current Dancehall space. He was given a scale of one to 10 to rate how much he misses Lady Saw, now Minister Marion Hall, in dancehall, to which he answered:

“12, I should say 100. The females, they’re doing good, they’re really doing good especially Shenseea… But Lady Saw, she worked… I do miss her, like seriously, we need a muma inna dancehall. Spice is there and she’s doing her thing… My queen is baptised so yuh haffi respect what’s going on now in music and honor it but Lady Saw, she, yeah man.”

He added, “You have Sister Nancy, Charmaine – God rest har soul – Lady Ann… but without Lady Saw you wouldn’t have a Spice neither, haffi respect that. Without Lady Saw you wouldn’t have a Angel (D’Angel), you wouldn’t have none a dem girl deh weh come hardcore inna dancehall music… So we miss har, 100 per cent, mi nah tell no lie.”

He was also given a dare, to choose between his ex-wife D’Angel or his most recent ex-girlfriend Krystal Tomlinson. He decided to plead the fifth by taking a chug of liquor.

He didn’t, however, have any issue giving advice to comedian Majah Hype when asked how he should approach his next relationship.

Hype and his former fiancé Latisha Kirby had a nasty online brawl a month ago, where they both accused each other of physical, verbal and emotional abuse.

“Don’t fight woman, don’t disrespect woman; love woman and understand dem,” Beenie Man advised. “If you and har have a problem and unno cya manage it, lef. Cya have your girlfriend a come out a seh yuh beat har up and yuh choke har and yuh do all sort of things. Sometimes a woman will drive you to wrath enuh. Yeah, you can touch har but don’t squeeze. Yuh can raise yuh hand but don’t punch. If yuh waan punch, punch out the door, kick out the wall, kick out the light mek she know seh she drive yuh to wrath but don’t beat woman dawg.”
