Best New Dancehall Music This Week: Chronixx, Shenseea, Skillibeng, Alkaline, Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul & More

On the best new Dancehall music roster this week, Chronixx has revealed a very insightful account of what’s really going on in the streets. Kabaka Pyramid teams with Mellow Mood to also call out industry leaders on their lies, while Bounty Killer, Agent Sasco and Serani are a triple threat with their Conspiracy Theory.

Shenseea takes on the Silver Tongue Devil is a dicey collab with Masego and Protoje carries us back to a time when things were simpler in his life with brand new visuals. Skillibeng steps it up in two separate tracks to swagger his bossiness and his badness in the other. Alkaline and Tommy Lee Sparta are also singing a similar tune.

Bramma Featuring Freddie McGregor – Big Chune (Remix)

From his Rugged & Deadly Album, Dancehall deejay Bramma has a new addition along with new visuals for his previously released single Big Chune. The remix features the legendary Reggae soul master, Freddie McGregor who lends his signature raspy vocals on Bramma’s retro-style track, to simply insert a touch of authenticity.

A graybeard McGregor appears in the music video with Bramma and his youthful crew at a private party as they rock it out this Big Chune.

Blvk H3ro, Wayne J & Skillibeng – Young Boss Remix

In this new release, Skillibeng torches up Blvk H3ro and Wayne J’s single, Young Boss with his electrifying Traphall lyrical delivery. The original song and the remix, which both appear on the duo’s new EP New Millennium, are odes to those young people who are really ‘bossing up’ in their respective fields. Fast-rising star Skillibeng was the perfect addition to emulate a true boss and show everyone how its really done.

“The young boss deh in here now, give me way make me bun up every stage show. We make the place haffi tun up every radio /move, nu ramp wid me papers dat a danger,” he verses in his segment of the track.

I Octane – Someone To Love

I Octane sets a romantic mood in this new Reggae infused love song Someone To Love. At a tropical destination, the sweet-talking deejay serenades his beau during a beachside picnic and aboard a luxurious private yacht in scenes of the music video, while crooning his charming lyrics:

“Everybody needs someone to love, everybody need someone to care. Everybody have doubts and have fears … from the moment I found you, life start have value. Cherish the moment, your love is important. With no one above you, that’s how much I love you. Remember I told you, I will never desert you no no no …”

Stylo G & Stamma Kid – Put Eh Dung

In new visuals for his previously released track Put Eh Dung, Stylo G teams with Stamma Kid to host a private party where they swagger their gallis skillset while telling the wannabes go, Put Eh Dung.

The witty skit, narrows-in on a chauvinistic loudmouth played by comedian Christopher Savage, who walks around being condescending to everyone and sprays the party with imprudent champagne showers.

Protoje – Still I Wonder

Inspired by Protoje’s real-life rise to stardom and the struggles he faced in his personal life on the way up, Still I Wonder verses, “Seems like I’ve been asking for too much from you, paying no attention to the things you do. Thinking of myself not what I’ve put you through, it’s unfair to ask you for a chance so true, but ‘Still I Wonder’.”

The music video shows the Reggae singer in a heated spat with his love, letting viewers in on the feels of this tumultuous journey.

Masego & Shenseea – Silver Tongue Devil

Jamaican- American musician, Masego, drafts Dancehall’s very own Shengyeng queen, Shenseea for his latest single, which expresses his weakness for the Silver Tongue Devil.

The very eclectic traphousejazz singer’s new song invites fans and newcomers into the mythical mind of a man at a crossroad: What to do with such a silver-tongued devil? On a smooth Afrobeat rhythm with his signature saxophone-infused impressions, the very domineering Shenseea tells him. Listen below.

Mellow Mood feat. Kabaka Pyramid – Mr. Global (Official Video)

Italian reggae duo Mellow Mood links up with Kabaka Pyramid in this new single to lash-out against Mr. Global. This character has led listeners to realise a deceitful political leader who, “Instead ah bridge or fence, a wall you a pree. You have the refugee dem in a tent a bawl and a plead/ you just a build the prison dem and people with dem different color skin, you fill it up with them. Man have the nerve fi tell we say you nu racist, you same one put my people on slave ships,” they sing in lyrics.

The official audio for the track dropped just a few days before the release of the new music video, which finds the three artistes outsmarting the cops with the help of friends in what appears to be a Kingston city community in Jamaica.

Kash – Big Dream

Dancehall newcomer, Kash impresses in his new single Big Dream, whipping a quick lyrical delivery and maintaining a melodic flow as he unleashes his unapologetic rhymes,

“Pass me the crown, make haste, you nuh see sah the king in a di place … whole heap a time me fail and try again, mi know me great. Whole heap a talk say me na go make it out, what a f**k if me did listen dem (hisses teet).”

The music video finds the lanky neophyte bossing it up around his neighbourhood colleagues, as he confidently speaks his greatness.

Teejay – Big Drip

Here he is again in another new release this week, Teejay the Up Top Boss shares his Big Drip, i.e. his iced out jewels, Versace fibers, the finest colognes and billions in the bank, according to the lyrics and what we see in the music video.

The single is an interesting compilation, which fuses soft piano acoustics, backing a sweet caroled chorus that verses, “Lift up my life, so much sacrifice and I hear a voice keep saying, ‘angels cover me… angels cover me’.” Teejay meets the serene melody with a slick lyrical flow to bragger his Big Drip on a beat-throbbing riddim.

Richie Spice – I Can See Clearly

Reggae singer, Richie Spice imparts his words of wisdom and inspiration in this uplifting ballad, I Can See Clearly. “I can do anything, be anything that I put my mind to. Once you be positive, proactive you can take control … I can see much clearly, better days are coming now…” he says.

The music video, re-enacts instances of resilience in pursuing academic goals; the artist, she sits and sketches an impeccable piece of the legendary singer and pins his portrait on a wall with other greats – Bob Marley, Nelson Mandela, Marcus Garvey and Usain Bolt.

Mr. Vegas – Be Strong

Mr. Vegas takes the time to send a message to the ghetto youths in his new single Be Strong. In some crafty lyrics he explains he can use his talent to conquer his detractors: “Mi can sing and kill the sewage dem, mi nu have fi beg nuh man fi rise the oozy dem, thats why mi tell the likkle juvi dem, nuh follow no man and kill you fren dem, you will end up prison.”

Korexx – Exotic

Korexx gets pretty racy in his new track Exotic. A flight to Orlando takes him on a kinky rendezvous at his girl’s place as seen in the music video. His very lively female companion puts on an Exotic show like no other, while he encourages her lewd deeds in lyrics.

Vybz Kartel – Try Dat

The Worl’ Boss has disembarked his fleet of risqué lady friends for an erogenous musical display in his new single Try Dat. The ever-entertaining deejay always elevates himself from the others with his inventive yet comical rhymes as he details all the rude things he’d like to do with his muse.

Ir Sais, Sean Paul & Davido – Dream Girl (Official Video – Global Remix)

Sean Paul never disappoints as he appears in this riveting collab Dream Girl with Netherland rock singer Ir Sais and American-Nigerian artiste Davido. The single is a feel-good, Afro-beat infused track spiked with vocals from the different genres belonging to each artiste. Paul deejays his confessions to his love, while Ir Sais serenades his foreign temptation and Davido assure his intentions.

Tommy Lee Sparta – HeavyWeight

Dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta says it’s really hard to live in the streets of his homeland especially when these young-bloods try to disrespect, but he is a Heavyweight with a lot of tricks up his sleeve: “Extension clip hold on pon extension clip, like autopilot we auto rising it.”

The single is a vent on a couple things on his mind, “Ah mi say ghetto youths fi reach, always a look out fi some dog sh** weh no look out for me. And when me try fi be selfish, dem say no dweet, really? Gwan go please fi yuh selfishness. Rass. The streets grow me smart, nah be no super hero, go suck yuh moddaaa….” are just snippets of his lyrics.

Chronixx – Another Youth

Chronixx has a mouthful to say in his new single Another Youth, so you better shut up and listen: “If yuh don’t know then you don’t know, lock yuh mout if you don’t know about the reality weh surround you. Open you eyes and observe nuh, it might serve you.”

He then goes on to set off imaginations in his descriptive lyrics as he educates his listeners. “Every gun weh you see in a gun show it deh yah in a gun load, likkle juvenile a run road /come see what the system did out here where the youths dem live. You have some men weh stray from dem modda, dem have one gun in a waist and one in a hand. Dem have the key fi di place, Gods of the land, dem nuh need nu permit to bury or license fi scam. Man all have a clip in a K, money a flow, Man all a clap it fi days and still have some more bullet, where dem get it from, no body knows.”

Macka Diamond & M-Gee – Careful A Dem

Macka Diamond aka Mackadocious delights fans in this teaming with M-Gee. The very confident Dancehall vixen dolls up in a purple faux fur top, worn over a black body suit and pulls up in style sitting atop a convertible BMW while she warns about haters.

M-Gee takes over several verses to support the same notion, “Carefeul a dem you nuh, cause dem will disguise and gwan like dem a fren you nuh,” he sings on the hook.

Bounty Killer, Serani & Agent Sasco – Conspiracy Theory (Remix)

No one was spared in this Conspiracy Theory revealed by Bounty Killer, Serani and Agent Sasco. From the big pharmaceutical companies, world leaders, politicians to our very own “Brogad” Prime Minister, all were scolded.

Serani highlights the current state of the economy and exposes the shortcomings. The Poor People Governor calls out the injustices faced by his people and oaths those responsible. And Sasco asks his rhetorical inquiries to bring light on a few issues and urges the people to make the right choices.

Alkaline – Total Murda

Alkaline, the Vendetta Boss takes out his rivals with a consistent slew of vicious lyrics in his single Total Murda. The deejay says he doesn’t do sub standard undertakings but more ruthless ones, “Dawgs do the killings and we do the extort.”

Like confessions of all his grimly deeds, he continues to scenario several instances of crime and violence without any reservation.

Skillibeng – Road

Skillibeng is back with another new release this week, Road is an assertion of how serious his badness is. “Tell PlayStation mi nuh play game/ EastSyde murda boy bare face, nuh strange man nu fi deh pon di lane late. Enemy a dead same place. Bad in a mi DNA,” are some of his stern lyrics as he echoes, “Mi nu slip in a di Road,” on the hook.
