Jamaican track superstar Usain Bolt says he woke up to media reports that he has tested positive for COVID-19, but is still awaiting results of the test taken over the weekend.

In a video message to Instagram followers today, the world record holder says he took a COVID-19 test over the weekend before a planned business trip on Tuesday.

“I woke up like everybody else, checked social media and saw where it was saying that I am confirmed to have COVID-19.”

The retired sprinter says he has no symptoms but has gone into isolation. “I did a test on Saturday to leave (the island) because I have work. I am trying to be responsible, so I am going to stay in and be safe. Also, I am having no symptoms, I will quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol and to see how I go about quarantining myself from the Ministry of Health,” he said.

Bolt added, “Until then, I will call my friends and tell them once they came in contact with me to be safe, quarantine and take it easy. Just to let people know, be safe out there.”

Usain was treated to a mega 34th birthday bash at the Football Factory in Jamaica on August 21 which he called the “best birthday ever.” The surprise party was hosted along with his girlfriend Kasi Bennett, who is also the mother of his newly born daughter, Olympia Lightning Bolt.

He had a slew of celebrities at the party, including famous footballer Leon Bailey, Ding Dong Ravers, and many others. Even though the celebration was extravagant, it seems they still tried to keep it low key.

Several highlights of the party showed the guests not wearing masks but keeping distance as they enjoyed themselves.

Now that Bolt is suspected to have contracted the virus, almost everyone who attended the party may have to be tested for Covid-19. Other celebs who may have to be concerned include Manchester City star, Jamaica’s Raheem Sterling.

Bolt’s situation may raise concerns for veteran dancehall star Beenie Man who also hosted a big birthday bash on August 22. The King of Dancheall’s bash had a lot more dancehall deejays and celebrities.

It was noted that many patrons at his birthday celebrations were also not wearing masks as they partied at the Kaya Herb House.

Beenie Man’s fiance Krystal Tomlinson, who is a political contender for the People’s National Party in the upcoming September 3 general elections, was also in attendance.

The guest list included Bounty Killer, KipRich, Konshens, Kemar Highcon, Popcaan, Team Ravers Clavers, including Beenie’s daughter Desha and Ding Dong, Mr. Lexx, and others.

Social media users took umbrage to the fact that many of his guests were not wearing masks, especially since Tomilson’s party the PNP has criticized the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) led government for campaign activities that saw persons not wearing masks or practicing social distancing.

As of the latest update today, Jamaica has 1,529 coronavirus cases, 16 deaths and 819 persons have recovered. On Sunday, Jamaica saw a record 116 new cases.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections worldwide has surpassed 23.4 million.
