Dancehall fans are used to the feuds between their favourite artistes being the fuel behind some of their favourite hits. Rivalries among lyricists allow proper breeding grounds for “gun-chunes” a known sub-genre in dancehall. Competitors for the King of the Dancehall throne would get in the studio and swap diss tracks aimed at each other laced with outlandish threats and rampant disrespect.

Ask any dedicated dancehall enthusiast and they might mention notable rivalries such as Bounty Killa Vs Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel Vs Mavado, Spice Vs Macka Diamond or Shabba Ranks Vs Ninja Man.  None has blown hot and cold quite like the rivalry between Vybz Kartel and Aidonia which has spanned over a decade.  It is arguably the most tumultuous feud dancehall fans have ever seen.

The two shared a hit song together in 2008 – Laugh and Shot Dem and also collaborated on Kingfish a Come and When Badman Buss It.  Aidonia even had a song dedicated to his respect for Kartel – Adi A Mi Daddy – however their early collaborations eventually turned into a competition.

Ten years ago tweets and the gram were not a thing, but here in 2019 we’ve witnessed the transition of “the war” from studio to social media.

In a tweet now being referenced as the source of this current debacle, Aidonia from his official Twitter account @aidonia4thgenna stated – “Dem drop million song and me use one and bussssss dem head #MortalKombat use less fi get more dmbs fcks”.

Followers of the JOP Genna were quick in calculating the exact meaning behind the cryptic tweet and its intended targets.

Many fans are supposing that this is aimed at the ever present Vybz Kartel, who has released more than 10 songs in the last month alone, and immediately pointed out this lyric in one of his latest releases ADIADKING – “05 till now me hold da lead ya”.

Incidentally, in a video circulating online Aidonia is seen on stage in Trinidad saying “Mi rate Vybz Kartel…from 2005 till now lyrically inna Dancehall music, Aidonia and Vybz Kartel a d two baddest bboclt artists!”.

In his latest track, Aidonia acknowledges that his fans have been missing his presence on the dancehall scene. “Weh di genna deh?” He carries on to clarify that even though he’s not releasing multiple tracks each month he is still relevant and reaping the benefits of strategic moves he’s made thus far.

The song titled Aircraft has Aidona saying “a who she dem have the hot song a street? Hot last week it nah last not another week”.

The post sparked several conversations online about Aidonia’s rightful status in the Dancehall industry.

Aidonia does have an international collab. Two actually. One with Kano. One of them was on a Grammy winning album. With two of the greatest artists in their respective field, Sting and Shaggy.” tweeted one user in the midst of the heated discussion.

After deleting the post Vybz made another seemingly in reference to the situation showing someone bowing before a king, captioned “I forgive you punk…now get da f*ck up and GWEH!!”

After which Aidonia tweeted – “Ok new music on da way zeeeen.”
