Chronixx

His birth papers read Jamar Rolando McNaughton, son of the popular Jamaican dancehall artist Chronicle, and was born on October 10, 1992.

Growing up, he was always surrounded by strong musical talents such as Gregory Isaacs and Burro Banton. At a young age, he developed a love for reggae music, creating his own lyrics to a song “Rice Grain” from as young 5 years old, later providing acoustics for other local artists, from Lutan Fyah to Popcaan.

By the time he was 15, Chronixx would start making remarkable strides in creating a name for him self in the music industry. In 2011, he released his first EP, Hooked on Chronixx. Tracks like ‘Start a Fyah’, ‘Warrior’ and ‘Behind the Curtain’ were huge hits and immediately caught the attention of industry pioneers and fans from afar. This would mark the beginning of the sensation we all know as Chronixx. Taking over radio streams and getting significant airplay in Jamaica, making appearances at Reggae Sumfest in 2012, Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records, local television shows and eventually touring the United Kingdom and United States. Things only got better for the young artist in the months that followed, releasing hits like ‘Here Comes Trouble’ and ‘Smile Jamaica’, touring Kenya and Nairobi and performing again at Reggae Sumfest in 2013.

With great anticipation, his next EP, ‘Dread & Terrible’ released in April 2014 making waves. Topping the Billboard Top Reggae Albums charts within 3 weeks and earning the number 1 position twice and the number 2 spot on the Digital Reggae Singles chart. A year later in March 2015, the EP was recorded spending 42 consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the Top Reggae Albums chart. In his short career stint, Chronixx went on to winning Culture Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Entertainer of the Year and nominated for a MOBO Award in the Best Reggae Act category in 2014. He also won a Best Song award for ‘Smile Jamaica’ and Best Music Video for ‘Here Comes Trouble’ at the 33rd International Reggae & World Music Awards. His debut album ‘Chronology’ released in 2017 and received a Grammy Award nomination.
