Two of Jamaica’s finest, Koffee and Chronixx, lent some island flair to the soundtrack of the new Netflix thriller, Fatale.

Koffee’s viral smash hit Toast as well as Chronixx and the Free Nationals’ Eternal Light appear on the wonderfully varied suite which also includes SAINt JHN, Saweetie and Jhenè Aiko.  In the Lionsgate movie starring Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy, a successful married man (Ealy) finds himself entangled in a cunning police detective’s (Swank) latest investigation after a one-night stand.

During the film’s club scene, Swank is seen swaying to the snappy sonic backdrop, Toast as she rebuffs another man’s advances, with her eyes set on Ealy.

Later in the flick as the two get more acquainted, the scene is aptly punctuated by Eternal Light, Chronixx & Free Nationals’ sultry serenade: “Still when she hear that good music she holds me closer/ She grooving, now I know she feeling it for sure/ She move to me and rest her head upon my shoulder/ Soothingly she tells me to turn up the sound.”

The film, which was released on December 18, currently has an audience rating of 88% on RottenTomatoes.

Jamaican music remains a prime choice for pop culture backdrops, and this isn’t either artist’s first foray into big-screen business. Toast was also featured in Jordan Peele’s horror film Us back in 2019.

They’ve also been included in the gaming arena, with Chronixx’s Odd Ras being featured on Grand Theft Auto V and Koffee’s Rapture Remix with Govana recently being added to the FIFA 21 in September 2020.

Both Koffee and Chronixx are cohorts of Jamaica’s reggae revivalist scene and the artists enjoyed mainstream success in 2020, with Koffee earning a barrage of endorsement deals, and Chronixx announcing his second album Dela Splash, as well as appearing on RocNation’s Reprise record.

They’ve also collaborated on a rootsy remake of Ed Sheeran and Justin Beiber’s I Dont Care, and praised each other countless times in interviews.

“She is making the best music of her generation already,” Chronixx said of the Grammy kid on Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning last year. “Koffee really made me a more exciting person musically, after seeing how she approaches her creativity, it was just like a breath of fresh air.”
