For a record that spent most of the last decade missing from streaming services, Greetings From California has had a strange afterlife.
Joel and Benji Madden released it in 2014 under the Madden Brothers name, then pulled it offline in 2015. Now it’s coming back as a Good Charlotte album, and it’s bringing Ziggy Marley along.
The first taste is a reworked U R featuring the eight-time Grammy winner, out now. It’s the band’s first collaboration with Marley.
It leans hard into the genre-blurring streak that made the original album such an odd fit next to the pop-punk the twins built their name on.
The expanded edition lands everywhere on 6th November via MDDN/Atlantic. Alongside the original tracklist, it adds three reimagined fan favourites: the Marley version of U R, Jealousy (All Your Friends In Silverlake) with Eyedress, and a live take on We Are Done from the Motel Du Cap tour.
The Maddens are candid about why the album vanished in the first place. “Soon after releasing it we felt like we wanted to take it back, and keep it just for us,” they said.

Time changed their view of it. “All these years later, we realized, this could have been a GC record all along,” they explained, adding that “it’s really meaningful to get to share it again” and that “the journey was the destination, all along.”
Fans, for their part, never let it go. While the album sat offline, it quietly built a following of its own, and listeners kept pushing for its return to streaming platforms. The re-release is as much an answer to that demand as it is a rebrand.
Musically, it’s a split personality record. The first half is bright pop rock made with longtime collaborator Eric Valentine, whose credits include Queens Of The Stone Age and Taking Back Sunday.
The second half digs into seventies radio pop with producer Joe Chiccarelli, known for work with Elton John, Weezer and Morrissey.
Collectors get a separate treat. A limited 2LP vinyl edition with the three bonus tracks and new cover art hits participating indie shops on Record Store Day Black Friday, 27th November.

The timing lines up with a busy stretch for the band. Last year’s Motel Du Cap was their first album in seven years, and the single Rejects reached number 7 on the Top 10 Alt Radio Singles Chart, their highest entry there.
Rolling Stone praised “the unrelenting energy” of the record, while Alternative Press said it saw them “returning to their pop-punk roots, with emotional depth.
That makes this reissue an interesting sidestep. Right after a record celebrated for going back to basics, Good Charlotte are reopening their most experimental chapter, with a reggae heavyweight on board.
Next they head to Europe and the UK for the Motel Du Cap tour with old friends Yellowcard, opening 8th November at Hovet in Stockholm.
Stops include Munich, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Paris and London’s O2 on 19th November, with Manchester’s Co-op Live on 30th November and LA band Grave Secrets opening every night. The band say more touring plans are coming soon.
