Diddy’s time behind bars keeps getting shorter. According to an update reported Tuesday, the Bad Boy founder’s projected release date now sits at January 21, 2028, which leaves him with roughly 15 months left to serve.
That is about three months earlier than the April 2028 date he was given when he first reported to prison. For a sentence that hasn’t been running very long, that is a lot of time already trimmed off the back end.
To understand how he got here, you have to go back to his 2025 federal trial in Manhattan. Sean Combs was facing racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges that could have kept him locked up for decades.
The jury acquitted him on those counts but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him to 50 months in prison, along with a $500,000 fine. That outcome frustrated people on both sides.
His legal team felt the sentence was too harsh for the counts he was convicted on, while others who followed the case felt the acquittals already let him off lightly.
Since then, Combs has been serving his time at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. By most accounts he has kept his head down.
He enrolled in a rehabilitation program and has reportedly been helping fellow inmates with education, the kind of participation that federal prisons tend to reward with time credits.
His record inside hasn’t been spotless, though. A few months ago he reportedly landed in solitary confinement following an alleged physical altercation with another inmate.
That episode had some observers wondering if his early release momentum would stall, but the latest date suggests it hasn’t slowed things down much.
The shifting timeline has become its own storyline. Supporters point to the steady reductions as proof he’s doing what the system asks of him.
