Countree Hype Says He’s “Keeping Positive” Ahead Of Sentencing In June
Dancehall producer Countree Hype is maintaining a positive outlook ahead of a hearing next month in Miami, where he is asking for a reduced sentence of three years after pleading guilty to smuggling 30 guns to Jamaica.
The producer, whose real name is Taugea Ubert Dayes, broke his silence in a short social media video posted Saturday. “Remember I’m alive, my people. Unuh stop the crying and calling,” he wrote in the caption.
Lying in bed, he addressed the recent headlines surrounding his guilty plea in the federal case. “Some of it might be the true, yeah, but we positive,” he said. “Big up the people dem weh reach out to me. At the time, we ah focus, we ah keep positive, and God know best.”
In March 2026, the producer admitted his role in a March 2025 weapons shipment that was later intercepted by authorities in Kingston, Jamaica. The shipment contained 30 guns (including six rifles), 32 magazines (including one high-capacity), and 102 rounds of ammunition that were hidden inside five ergonomic office chairs.
Prosecutors said Countree Hype had used the fake name “Jaime Roberts” for about six earlier shipments over six months, and used the same name again when he took the chairs to a Miami freight company on March 10, 2025.
Hype, who is out on a $150,000 bond with GPS monitoring, is facing up to ten years in prison and $500,000 in fines.
His lawyer, Michael B. Cohen, has asked the court to impose a sentence of no more than 35 months, arguing that Hype accepted responsibility and had not previously violated the law.
In a court filing, Cohen also argued that deportation should count toward a shorter sentence since Hype will likely spend extra time in custody after his sentence while awaiting removal from the country.
In his video on Saturday, Countree Hype responded to negative comments online about his actions, invoking the biblical phrase: “Let he without sin cast the first stone.”
“Today will come to past, man. It will come to past and soon forget about it,” he added. “Music continue, man. Nothing nah stop. Yeah, bless up.”
Countree Hype is best known for producing Alkaline’s Cree, Intence’s Yahoo Boyz, Shane O’s Psalm 23, and SamDan’s Blaze Up.
