BNXN has picked a very loaded date for his next move. The Nigerian singer’s new EP, Still In Charge, lands on Thursday, October 1, 2026, which also happens to be Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The title alone feels like a statement. Pair it with a release on one of the biggest days on the Nigerian calendar and it’s hard not to read it as a flex, although BNXN hasn’t said anything publicly about the timing.
What he has confirmed is the guest list. Asake and FOLA are both set to appear on the project, giving the EP two features that pull from very different corners of the current scene.
Asake needs little introduction at this point. The YBNL signee has spent the last few years stacking up albums like Mr. Money With The Vibe, Work of Art and Lungu Boy, turning his amapiano-flavoured street pop into one of the most recognisable sounds coming out of Lagos.
FOLA arrives from a different angle. The younger singer broke through with the moody hit “Alone” and has built a following on softer, more emotional records, so his presence suggests BNXN is keen to connect with the newer wave rather than lean only on established names.
That mix is interesting on paper. One feature brings stadium-level star power, the other brings the kind of buzz that comes from a fanbase still discovering an artist, and how BNXN balances the two could say a lot about where his own sound is heading.
For anyone who has followed him since he was still going by Buju, the move tracks. He changed his name to BNXN in 2022, the same year “Finesse” with Pheelz became one of the defining Afrobeats songs of that summer.
Since then he has kept a steady flow of releases and collaborations going, and his albums and EPs have helped cement him as one of the more dependable melody writers in the genre. Still In Charge adds another body of work to that growing discography.
There’s still plenty nobody knows yet, though. The full tracklist hasn’t been revealed, and there’s no word on production credits, so it’s unclear how many songs are coming or who is behind the boards.
That leaves fans working with a title, a date and two names. For now, the countdown to October 1 is running, and the rest of the details are expected to surface as the release gets closer.
