For years, American dancehall fans have streamed Popcaan, shared his clips and watched him perform everywhere but here.
That could finally be changing, with the Unruly Boss reportedly securing a U.S. visa after a long stretch of public talk about his access to the country.
The news surfaced through DancehallMag on October 11, citing The Shade Room, before NY Carib News picked it up on October 12.
The most personal reaction so far has come from his sister, Unruly Squid, who called it a meaningful breakthrough for both the artiste and his family.
“Pops has put so much into his career, and as family, we know firsthand what this journey has taken,” she told The Shade Room. “So, to see another door open for him is something we don’t take lightly.”
She also turned her attention to the people who have supported him from a distance. “America has a huge audience that loves and supports him, and I’m excited for the day those fans get to experience his energy in person,” she said.

That’s the family side of the story, and it carries real weight. Squid framed this as the payoff of a long career effort rather than a lucky break, and she added that Popcaan and his team are working behind the scenes on his next chapter.
The fan side is a little more complicated. The initial report did not include any U.S. concert dates, venues or ticket details, so anyone already pricing out flights to New York or Miami should hold off for now. A reported visa approval is news, but it is not a tour announcement.
Born Andrae Sutherland, Popcaan built his international following the hard way, through his own records and a run of high profile collaborations.
His association with Drake’s OVO Sound put him in front of a massive North American audience, with releases like the 2020 Fixtape and the 2023 album Great Is He arriving under that banner.
That made the travel situation all the more awkward. NY Carib News recalled that in 2023 Popcaan publicly questioned why he couldn’t travel to America, even though he was able to visit other destinations.
Fans noticed the gap too, since one of the region’s most recognised dancehall acts was effectively missing from one of its biggest markets.

The new report marks a clear shift in a situation that drew attention for several years. Still, the details that matter most to listeners haven’t been confirmed, and neither Popcaan nor his camp has announced an itinerary.
What happens next comes down to logistics. Fans will be watching for where he performs, when tickets go on sale and how they can actually get in the room.
Until his official channels share those answers, the visa is the headline and the shows are still a promise waiting on a date.
