Masicka Shares Release Date, Cover Art For Sophomore Album ‘Generation Of Kings’

Dancehall artist Masicka says his second studio album, Generation of Kings (G.O.K.), will be released on Friday, December 1.

It will be his first full-length project since signing to Def Jam Recordings.

In an Instagram post on Friday, the Update deejay also shared the album’s cover art and a snippet of a new song, heightening fan anticipation. The cover art is strikingly simple yet impactful, showcasing a gold crown suspended in darkness, symbolizing the album’s title. Hands reach upwards towards the crown, adding a dramatic touch.

The tracklist for G.O.K. is yet to be revealed, but it’s anticipated to include Tyrant, a single from May 2023. His more recent singles are Limelight, dropped on November 10, and Bed a Rock!, released on November 17.

Masicka’s debut album, 438, independently released in December 2021, achieved notable success, ranking as the third best-selling Jamaican Reggae/Dancehall album in 2022. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and amassed 30 million on-demand streams and 35,000 units in the U.S. by the end of 2022, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate.

During a virtual discussion for Amazon Music’s Black Music Month in June, Masicka expressed confidence that G.O.K. will surpass the quality of 438.

“Mi can tell yuh seh it far betta dan 438,” he said. “Suh, dis a sumn weh di fans dem can look out fah, and it a drop dis year suh fi fans dem can look out fi dat to. We a work pon di album…jus’ some likkle fine tune and going ova some tings but mi want di fans dem look out fi dat ‘cause dat aguh be problems again.”

Coinciding with his 30th birthday on December 4, Masicka plans to celebrate the album’s launch and his birthday with a performance at Club Amazura in Queens, NY, on December 2.
