January 2023 is ending on a high for Dancehall’s new favorite Valiant, who has a total of nine out of ten songs on YouTube’s Music Charts for Jamaica. The Speed Off deejay also finishes in the top position of most streamed artists for the month.

He would have had a clean sweep, however, Kraff’s Calmc took the fifth position.

The top ten songs in January were ranked as follows:

  1. Valiant and Stalk Ashley – Narcissistic
  2. Valiant – Dunce Cheque
  3. Valiant – Speed Off
  4. Valiant – C.A.L. (Cut All Losses)
  5. Kraff – Calmc
  6. Valiant – North Carolina
  7. Valiant – Glock 40
  8. Valiant – St. Mary
  9. Valiant – Barbies
  10. Valiant – Siance

According to YouTube, Valiant picked up 11.6 million views in January from Jamaican viewers on the platform, outshining other artists like Chronic Law, who was second with 10.6 million views, Kraff, with 5.76 million views, Skeng, with 4.5 million views, and Vybz Kartel, with 4.12 million views.

Valiant was also No. 1 in Guyana, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Vincent, No. 2 in Saint Kitts, No. 4 in Belize and Saint Lucia, No. 6 in Barbados, No. 7 in Dominica, and No. 8 in Trinidad & Tobago, for the month of January.

Valiant’s fresh wave of success coincidentally ties in with the theme the deejay explores in his latest offering— Bruk Days.

The official visuals dropped on January 29, and is already close to 300,000 views. Valiant is sending a clear message to the haters, and naysayers that there’s no way he is dropping the ball.

“You shoulda badmind mi inna mi bruk days/
Mommy house upstairs/ Me know she nah complain/ I’m glad I’m a driver/ I’m still a survivor/ A whole heap ah fight when yuh arise/ But prayers a fight back yes…,” he sings in a reflective tone.

The entertainer keeps it simple in the video. Most scenes see him sitting by himself by the seashore or among friends having a drink. In one scene, he is seen toying around with several wads of cash inside a duffel bag. On the downside, the video also shows someone spying on his every move.

By now, Valiant, whose given name is Raheem Bowes, should be warmed up to wide popularity. Back in December, he occupied the top five spots out of 10 on the YouTube charts in Jamaica. The feat earned him the attention of iconic fashion magazine Vogue, which named Valiant as one of nine international musicians set to “take over” in 2023.

The 24-year-old pointed out in an interview late last year that it was his intent to capitalize on the attention he got on social media, even before he was widely known as an artist. It may not be farfetched to believe that this Valiant wave sweeping across Dancehall was also part of his plan as he aims to “conquer Jamaica and the Caribbean and make a transition to the international scene.”

He has also caught the attention of international acts like Rick Ross who has become infatuated with his “Rich, ah lie?!” slang, as well as Offset whom he met personally on the rapper’s visit to Jamaica in early December.

He was also hailed as the star at the return of Sting on Boxing Day after treating a handful of fans to a mini concert atop a motor vehicle in the parking lot following a pre-mature ending of the show.

The singer recently enjoyed some downtime in Guyana, following his performance in the country over the weekend. See Team Mohamed photos –
