Minister Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw and Queen of Dancehall, stirred heavy debate online after condemning Spice, Shenseea and Jada Kingdom in a lengthy sermon on last Sunday.

The Minister, who revealed that she was compelled by God to speak up about the matter, singled out each of the prominent female Dancehall artists to unleash her criticisms.

She held nothing back in telling the reigning Queen of Dancehall – Spice, that she was “played out” and could no longer turn heads like before – “Gracie you did look good, yuh no look good again, you mess up youself.”

As for Shenseea, whose controversial single Lick with Megan Thee Stallion may have caused the minister’s outburst, Hall said if the singer’s late mother, Castilyn Eleanor was still alive she wouldn’t be happy. And like Spice, she insinuated that Shenseea had some cosmetic work done. “Shenseea yuh born look good, you never need anything else. What’s wrong with you!”

“Jada Kingdom, I see you, you weak, you weak likkle girl,” she added, before telling all the ladies, “I want you all to see this because you are all selling yourselves short and you are going to hell if you don’t turn around.”

Minister Hall’s condemnation on the women however, didn’t go over very smoothly with many onlookers and Dancehall fans. Several persons thought she was hypocritical and had no place degrading a custom in the music culture that she was pivotal in forming.

“Lol after she had all her years wilding as the queen of slackness she now wants to pass judgment. Smh,” said one Twitter user Verny M.

Jayroyyal on Instgram said, “Lady a u them learn from n gweh😂you sound like a hypocrite cz all of them combined nuh have the mouth weh u have yet.”

Another observer, Paul Roberts said, “Left the people let them do their thing, you did yours already. You chose a different path and they remain with what pays their bills…nuff respect [to] them and their artwork, wish them the best, and same to you Minister Hall.”

Tashana added, “I don’t like this one bit. She need ah slap wid di same Bible fi remind har seh she nuffi judge.”

While another user, Kymanee quoted some of Lady Saw’s past lyrics to drive her point. “Hold up u ‘oood and put you ‘and ina di ‘air, cuz you neva put yuh ‘oood dere, ‘round d rear.” Marian thinks god has forgotten how she got her fame. Lol. Stop it pot!” she said.

Another person commented, “Let someone else be an instigator but NOT THE MOST RAUNCHY FEMALE DANCEHALL ARTISTE EVER. You can encourage someone to do better than the example you’ve set without BELITTLING them. You LEFT… so let your pass remain your pass WITH ALL RESPECT!”

The minister’s sermon informed others that perhaps she wanted to get back into Dancehall music. Jamerican206 said, “Lady Saw sounds like she wants to backslide into dancehall. Why can’t she leave that chapter of her life in the past? It’s like some people like her to draw her into this toxic debate about the current state of dancehall.”

And “Marion Hall if you want to backslide into dancehall as Lady Saw. Just say that and stop tell lie pon God.”

Fellow Dancehall veteran Macka Diamond had expressed the same inclination in a recent Instagram Live while coming to the defense of the other ladies. Macka said, “How you ova yesso a watch, a suh you miss ova yesso. How you a see everything … If you want come back in a di music, if you want come back in a Dancehall we’ll accept you enuh Lady Saw.” Among other things Macka also felt that Hall was very impolite and offensive towards the women.

On the flip side, there were several fans that couldn’t have agreed more with the minister’s preaching.

For Yannick Pessoa, Spice, Shenseea and other female Dancehall acts are not who she wants her daughter to look up to. “I kinda agree with her… they rep for toxic femininity and are so not who I want my daughter idolize. Sorry a ‪#QueenIfrica and Tanya alone a gallang spit likkle substance. Mi can’t tek tight up skirt show you what me worth levity.”

While Kwame Thomas commented, “Without mentioning the whole “racing to hell” part she might be on to supmn. Hear me out, what if she’s just using these characters to show where dancehall is now…twas always rough and raunchy but you had a few good acts with a few good songs… it might be on the decline.”

“Can’t really tek in the hell commentary, but she’s not all the way wrong. 1) At least lady saw was a little tasteful (probably bcuz of the lack of social media. 2) They are competing in strange ways. 3) She really ranked them too. Mentioning Jada last was intentional,” said another.

And Bad Flu added, “Was she wrong though?”

Some felt that Marion Hall should simply give the ladies a chance to live their best life the way she did before turning her life around. For instance IG user Jashii said, “Just like how everybody give u time Fi turn to the Lord give people time too.”
