Wayne Marshall Back In Studio For New Song On Bounty Killer’s ‘King of Kingston’ Album
Dancehall stars Bounty Killer and Wayne Marshall have an upcoming treat for music fans as part of the Five Star General’s upcoming studio album, King of Kingston, which is expected this Christmas.
On the latest episode of his YouTube series with wife Tami Chin, Wayne Marshall revealed that he went “back in studio for Bounty’s album.” On Friday’s show, an excited Wayne shared the news with his famous sister-in-law, Tessanne Chin—season five winner of NBC’s singing competition, The Voice.
“Yooo, guess wha’happen Tessi?”… “Mi nuh go studio yessideh bro,” he said.
She couldn’t have looked more surprised, “What did you dooo?” Tessanne responded.
“Mi go record a tune. Me and Killa,” Wayne replied.
The Marshall Town singjay then showed footage of his visit to King Jammy’s studio, while reminiscing down memory lane. “Back to we ole stomping ground, King Jammy’s studio, right here so mi career start,” Marshall said as he made his way inside the studio’s small recording booth.
The popular 2000’s Dancehall crooner-turn-Gospel singer showed his long-time collaborator and friend, Jamaican Dancehall producer Trevor ‘Baby G’ James sitting behind the engineer soundboard awaiting his arrival. Viewers also got a snippet of Wayne laying down his bars for the new track in the studio even though it was void of the audio.
Now that he has retired from the Dancehall music scene, Wayne, 41, still dabbles in music from time to time, bringing forth a few religious and motivational tunes since embarking on a more spiritual journey.
“I have been going through a process. I have opened myself up to ideas that were previously outside my vibration and this is a validation of that journey… I have been patient, obedient and following the guidance that I am being given, and committed to seeing the signs and acting on them. I am on a journey and I am where I should be. I just want people to know that God is accessible even for a secular artiste,” the singer told the Jamaica Observer in 2018 while promoting his first Gospel-influenced single, Glory To God featuring Tessanne Chin and Pastor Ryan Mark.
Close to his words, Marshall covered Tenor Saw’s classic Lots Of Signs, last year as part of VP Records and Jeremy Harding’s Dancehall Anthems Project.
Some of Wayne’s other recent tracks include You Are My Father, You Can Get It, Son Of A Gun, and Cane Fields with Reggae acts Natural High, Kabaka Pyramid, and Jesse Royal.
His longtime partner in crime Bounty Killer has shown support for Wayne’s new path in music. The two have collaborated on several songs over the years including Smoke Clears, Sufferer, So High with Vybz Kartel, and Ladies Looking Fine with Richie Stephens.
Bounty and Wayne also teamed up on the single Thank Yuh Fi The Blessing that was produced by Danny Brownie in 2018 and also appeared together on a track with Sample King called Weh You Want Fi Do last year. It’s only natural to predict that their King of Kingston collaboration will follow the same religious and motivational trail.
Marshall said recording the new song felt like going back to the place where it all began.
“The song came out good and ofcourse its always a joy for me to be in Jammy’s ‘cause King Jammys studio is where I recorded my vey first song,” he said. “It was very much like returning home and then you see so much familiar faces … it was an awesome vibe.”
Wayne also revealed that he and Tessanne (and maybe Tami in the future) are easing their way back in the studio, so fans may get their “wish come true” and hear some new music soon.
“We a take we time fi get back into the studio and start kicking out some music,” he promised.
