Jamaican record producer Rvssian has come out to defend Dancehall starlet Shenseea amidst claims that she has ‘sold her soul to the devil’. Ever since the Shenyeng princess released Run Run, the first song off her upcoming debut album, she has been getting backlash from critics for the ‘satanic’ imagery in the Christian Breslauer-directed music video.

The Dancehall star may have added fuel to the fire when she shared an Instagram clip of her favorite scene from the video, where she was floating atop a platform, while being lowered to hell in a sexy devil costume with horns.

Unfortunately, many fans couldn’t quite relate and instead thought she had gone down a dark path. Critics went as far as saying the Blessed singer seemed to have officially inducted herself into the “Illuminati” and “sold her soul”.

An outraged and perplexed Rvssian took to Twitter to ridicule the backlash.  He sarcastically asked his followers: “They say people sell them soul. But how much do these type of things go for? and is a store or what? Mi confuse.”

The Head Concussion and Rich Immigrant Records executive to whose label Shenseea is signed, went on further to tell these holier-than-thou critics to stop being so judgmental.

“I praise God and have given all my success and credit to him. He’s the first, but if you guys are so godly. No one can say I have ever disrespected the lord but didn’t the Bible say Mathew 7 – Do not judge … do u know the rest? but you guys are more holy than we are – look into ya self.”

He wasn’t quite done yet, in a follow-up Tweet he added, “And please. I want all you hypocrites to stopwatch horror movies and gun violent songs with evil lyrics.”

Over on Instagram, he posted a clip of the Run Run music video and quoted the hook of the song to drive the point that the imageries were purely for entertainment. He wrote, “RUN RUN from all negative 🔥 it’s only a music video 😉🤷🏻‍♂️.”

“Thank you👏👏👏👏…so tired of these stupid “sell soul” and “devil worshipping” comments,” said one follower. Another agreed, “Thank u smh I was really getting pissed with all these conspiracies 👏.”

One person was disappointed that the Jamaican audience wasn’t able to appreciate the singer exploring her artistry as means of commercializing her brand and music.

“Sometimes I wish our own Jamaican people would stop being so small-minded and appreciate creativity for entertainment purposes. I’m sure @shenseea isn’t a devil worshipper, she’s just stepping out the box and exploring her artistry, especially to put dancehall on the commercial map. The world is big and many people are still unaware of who she is, so continue to expand your fan base simple🤷🏾‍♂️. My respect to you shenseea everytime 🙏🏾💜.”

A few years back Dancehall deejay, Vybz Kartel was dealt the same thread of accusations from people alleging that he was affiliated with a cult or freemason as some would refer to it and that he had sold his soul to the devil. However, an unabashed Kartel at the time would use several opportunities to ask audiences to elaborate on the process of how one sells their soul.

“I would like to know how does one go about selling their soul to the devil. Does the devil have a bank account… or do you first put an ad in the classified that say soul for sale in good condition. I leave a number to call, the devil calls you, and you work out the fine print of it, he gives you a managers cheque for your soul,” he said during a lecture with a group of UWI students in 2011.

The question also came up during an interview with Winford Williams on an episode of Onstage, where he again rubbished the theory. Watch here –

Shenseea might be getting some backlash from a few people but her Shenyengs are out in their numbers streaming the new video. Since its release four days ago, Run Run is trending for music at the no. 1 spot with more than 2.3 million views.
