Dancehall star Shenseea’s revelation that the favorite part of her Run Run music video were the scenes of her descending to hell whilst sporting Satanic horns, has not gone down well with her fans, who say the ‘satanic’ representations are a part of devil-worshipping.

Her Instagram page, where she shared the video clip and made the comments, was lit up with dissenting comments from her followers.  The fans, already seething about the imagery which spans the three-minute video, appeared even more flabbergasted after she expressed delight about being lowered into hellfire on a platform.

Fans express disappointment

Many expressed disappointment and told the Sure Sure artist in no uncertain terms that they believed she had “sold herself to the devil”.

Others maintained that the video was her full initiation, supposedly, into the much-talked-about “Illuminati,” whose “demons” had taken “full control” of her.

“Oh wow! They got her…she bout to rise to the top out of no where😳🔥🔥Be safe Shen 💕,” raquel.slayy advised.

“Why did you take God first out of your bio?” multimodeti demanded to know, while “@shenseea this is how you thank God for bringing you so far smh,” was xoxokimbrown response.

Another follower, thereal_ella.x, also said she was sorely disappointed with the video and was not in support of the Good Comfort artist’s actions. “I guess it’s different but the devil vibes are not it. If this is what’s gonna give her that global recognition then I ain’t here for it. Been supporting from years back but I don’t agree with this personally.  I like the song tho but the visuals…nahhh,” she said.

A few followers also took aim at the song’s producer Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, who had noted under the video that it was a “big look”.

“@digenius1 n-gga you trippin,” essadro.nlk wrote while 3kings_production added: “@digenius1 dem ting u support 🩸? #smh”.

Over on the Shade Room’s IG page, there was a resounding collective thumbs down from the unimpressed commenters, most of whom said that there seemed to be an apparent fixation by American artists on going to hell in their music videos, something they had grown tired of, and which Shenseea was now copying.

“Everyone’s obsessed with hell & they headed straight for it,” herculean.julian wrote, while dayumslim noted: “Love the song but why is hell being glorified..don’t take things like this lightly hell is very real beloves 😢”.

She’s literally doing an Illuminati ritual in front of y’all eyes man 🤦🏽‍♀️ #WakeUp,” daishun1207 wrote.

As the comments rained in opposition, many accused the 24 year old of copycatting rapper Lil Nas X.

“It’s giving lil Nas x but y’all won’t be outraged because it’s a woman,”
x_bae_bea_x complained while errthanq_koshaa added: “Oh nah she in the same HELL y’all crucified Lil NasX for, keep that same energy folks.”

There were also some commenters who were dismissive of the Trending Gyal artist, accusing her of trying “too hard” to be like American female artists.  “Look like a Megan and Nicki video. When will these chicks come original. No originality. And no couth. Do y’all know what clothes are??”

Foota Hype, Mr. Vegas weigh in

Popular Dancehall selector and commentator Foota Hype, as was expected, also gave his take on the matter. In his summation on his IG page, he said he was not surprised, as he had issued multiple warnings about her going down a slippery slope, following her music video for Blessed in which she was pictured half-naked while caressing a woman in bed.  He also cautioned Shenseea to try to understand what she was getting herself into, claiming that he “rated her”.

However, Dancehall deejay Mr. Vegas condemned the backlash and sought to defend Shenseea during an Instagram Live today.

“If the sister (Shenseea) aspire to be great and she decide, seh she ago get a new manager and she decided that she want to change up some things about her music and she want to add some imagery to her music, we have to first, before we start criticise the imagery, it is essential for us to do our research.  We can’t just see something in the video and jump and say dat a demonic thing and dat a devil thing,” Vegas said.  “Just because we were cultured..or indoctrinated to look at things as demonic.”

He continued, “we have to be very careful about putting down somebody work because it’s going against our norm.  What she is doing is going against the norm, the European norm.  That’s what uno have to understand.”

Meanwhile, Shenseea’s satanic getup seemed to have impressed the handful of fans on Twitter, who commented on her the Run Run video post.

The most highly impressed person was Minister of Agriculture Floyd Green who shared the video and said that he was delighted with the imagery, that he saw within it.

“#SaturdayVibes Absolutely love the visuals.. Big Tune from @SHENYENG and @DiGenius1,” Green, wrote.

‘We all got opinions!’

Shenseea did not respond to the scathing comments on her Instagram page, but instead took to Twitter to state that she was unperturbed by the dissenting comments.

“I am not offended by persons who don’t like the song or the video for Run Run.  We all got opinions! However, to those who love it, we share the SAME sentiments! I am INLOVE!” she wrote on Saturday following her first post in which she noted that the track had 1.3 Million views in 19 hours, was number one Trending on Twitter, the number one trending video in Jamaica, and number six on trending for music in Jamaica and also “trending in the US and Canada.”

“SHENYENGZ, WE DID THAT! #RunRun,” she had written.

Over on her YouTube channel, there were also comments for and against the video.  Among the commenters was Jah Moore who hailed her for sampling songs of her Jamaican musical predecessors.

“You did amazing on that track. Payed homage to some solid legendary tracks like shabba and Cocoa Tea’s Pirates, I also heard a little Wayne wonder Saddest Day sample along with Sizzla’s live is always there. Dancehall/ Regaae is the only way. Trap Hall could NEVA!” he wrote.

However, like many others, SILVER BACK GORILLA contended that Shenseea was carrying out the works of the Devil.

“Well to be quite honest, what I’m seeing here is that one of our sister has now crossed over to the demon world. Soul sell and going straight to hell. I see the signs. Baphomet, snake, hell, fire, she-devil and Medusa it’s all there,” he wrote.

Run Run currently stands at 1.7 million views on YouTube.
