This weekend was a solid one for new Dancehall and Reggae releases. Whether you were keeping an ear out for the next big summer scorcher, or just browsing for new jams to add to your drive-time playlist, you would have found something to match your vibe.

While two legendary collaborations – Go Down Deh by Shaggy, Spice and Sean Paul and Where You Come From by DJ Khaled featuring Capleton, Buju Banton, Barrington Levy, and Bounty Killer – dominated feeds on social media, numerous other tracks were put out to kickstart the new week and month vibrantly.

We sorted through the new releases from both established and up-and-coming Reggae and Dancehall acts and selected 15 that we think are deserving of a spot on your playlist this week. Listen up.

Projexx & Bakersteez – Bigga League

Projexx, the grandson of of one of Dancehall’s greatest producers Lloyd “King Jammy” James, definitely has a gem on his hands with his new easygoing Dancehall/Trap bop Bigga League, featuring Bakersteez.  Though distinctly different, the two voices meld perfectly to execute what could very well be a club (or home  theatre) flex anthem this summer.

7 Daze ft Bakersteez – Heartless

Bakersteez showed off his vocal and emotional range as he morphed from the hardened thug in Bigga League to a brooding ex-lover in Heartless with 7 Daze. This laid-back song about heartbreak and regrets after unrequited love proves that musically, newcomer 7 Daze is anything but weak in this track produced by Dethwrld Records.

Alborosie – For The Culture

Italian-born Reggae musician Alborosie shows reverence to the Jamaican culture in this timeless Reggae jam. “Cause this ya culture make me give up all me papers/ All now me passport change, the cover says Jamaica,” the Rastafarian croons in an ode to the people that welcomed him with open arms. The video, set in a Jamaican market, depicts islanders working hard to earn a living, joyful children, voluptuous Jamaican women, and culturally significant pastimes of the Jamaican people.

TeeJay – Trust

Coming out of the Romeich Entertainment camp this week is From Rags to Riches singer Teejay, reminding his fans not to put their Trust in friends. The track was produced by Chimney Records, and the video is #7 on Trending with almost 150,000 views since its release yesterday.

Leno Banton – Reborn

Following up on his romantic Pina Colada single earlier this month, the son of Burro Banton is staying consistent with his latest effort Reborn. The young artist shared on Instagram that the conscious song means a lot to him, as he did a lot of the work himself. “I’m really proud to say I played the keys, drums, used my vocals to create the instrumental, sang the song and created the artwork myself on this one! Everything takes effort, everything takes time. And in a world driven by negativity there is always a place for positive energy! So never stop trying!” he shared.

Jahmiel – Company

Sweet-talker Jahmiel has released another missile aimed straight at the heart of his female fans. After asking to be shown love in Show Me earlier this year, the Great One is now seeking some Company, and he expresses his desire in no uncertain terms. Since its release at midday yesterday, the new song has quickly racked up 100,000 views on YouTube, rightfully earning a spot on the Trending charts.

Quada – Full Moon

For those grown-up Dancehall listeners who like it rough and raw, Quada is here to please. Full Moon is definitely baby-making music, and has nothing to do with the night sky beyond the line “Mek yuh feel like yuh deh pon moon.” The video provides lost of eye candy as vixens show off their prowess and open-mindedness as they get wet in a river.

Vybz Kartel – I Know and Believe

The Worl’ Boss was in a cheerful mood when he penned and voiced this one (whenever that was). What we know, though, is that the get-up-and-get-going bopper was released this weekend and is doing well so far. The official video, which has amassed over quarter million views so far to be trending at #23, shows several protagonists working hard to beat the odds… and oddly enough, a Vybz Kartel doppelganger syncing the words “Jus’ be the best version of yourself.”

Capleton – Nuh Fear Dem

The ‘Fire Man’ is strategic. After setting DJ Khaled’s album ablaze with his much talked-about verse on Where You Come From, the Rastaman turned up the flames the very same day in this reminder that he doesn’t fear any weapon that is formed against him.

Mavado, IVoltage – Never Go Win

In this song of affirmation the Gully Gad and IVoltage reflect on the misfortunes that beset them in recent times, and declared that their haters will never triumph over them. Mavado, who lost his mother and witnessed his son being sentenced for murder earlier this year, started the song with “Jah alone knows what a gwaan, Mama though yuh gone yuh legacy lives on.”

Jahvillani  – War We Love

Jahvillani’s latest gangsters’ gospel War We Love is quick out of the blocks since its Friday release, and is holding its own at #12 on Trending. The defiantly violent track was produced by Kit Boss Records and XGProduction.

Naomi Cowan ft. Runkus & The Wixard – Lucky Me

Reggae royalty Naomi Cowan dropped a groovy new jam from her upcoming mixtape, and it has gotten the nod of approval from her fans. Runkus and The Wixard complement this take of a toxic love perfectly.

Shane O – Psalm 23

A week after its release and Shane O’s Psalm 23 is still holding its own on the charts and gaining traction. With over a quarter-million views so far, it’s evident that the Last Days singer has another hit on his hands.

Keznamdi (ft. Vybz Kartel and Tory Lanez) – City Lock Remix

After its official release featuring Tory Lanez in March, Keznamdi has reloaded his lyrically complex City Lock for a second round with the Vybz Kartel, and it’s definitely worth a spot on your playlist.

Shaneil Muir – Soon Done

It seems Shaneil Muir is feeling optimistic since COVID-19 vaccination began in Jamaica, and she expresses as much in her new track Soon Done. In this upbeat song, Muir urges her fans to hold on a little longer because the pandemic will soon be over and they will soon be able to party without restrictions again.
