Sean Paul Drops Visuals For ‘Scorcha,’ Says He’s ‘Only Just Getting Started’ After 21 Years In Dancehall

Dancehall star Sean Paul today released new visuals for his single Scorcha, as he celebrates 21 years in Dancehall.

Describing the last two decades as a “whirlwind”, the Grammy Award-winning artist shared a video snippet on Instagram yesterday, looking back at his career. In fact, he says he is just getting started.

The international star and music producer, who has eight studio albums under his belt, released his debut album, Stage One, in 2000 with VP Records.

“21 Years Deep N feels like I’m only just getting started,” is the caption for the video in which he says: “Yea, it’s been crazy to hear 21 years, ‘cause it’s been a whirlwind for me.”

“When you go on tour sometimes, come back, and you feel the same because you’ve been doing the same thing every day—going, ripping shows, doing studio time, travelling, touring—and you not seeing life as its moving,” said Sean Paul, who was, of course, sporting shades in the video.

The artist, who gave the world hits like Get Busy, from his 2002 album Dutty Rock—which earned him the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004—said the last 21 years does not feel like 21 years to him.

“It’s been a rush of experiences and a great journey so far,” said an upbeat Sean Paul. “I can’t wait to see what the future brings.”

And already, the future looks fire as fans received the premiere of the official video for Scorcha today. Today’s premiere follows the release of visuals for Everest with Masicka and Skillibeng and comes ahead of the May 1 premiere of the visuals for Spice’s Go Down Deh, on which he collaborated along with Shaggy.

Scorcha, produced by Chimney Records, is the lead-out single and title track of Paul’s next album, Scorcha.  The album is set for release later this year under Island Records and will feature American singer Gwen Stefani, Australian singer-songwriter Sia, Jamaican Dancehall songstresses Shenseea and Jada Kingdom, and UK-based Dancehall artist Stylo G.

The Scorcha album will follow Live N Livin, which was released on March 12 under Paul’s Dutty Rock Productions and debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart a week later. The collab heavy suite of 16 tracks had recruited over 20 Reggae and Dancehall artists.

The comments under his video about his 21-year “whirlwind” experiences were lit with fire emojis and hearts as social media users celebrated the I’m Still In Love With You singer’s milestone.

Chi Ching Ching, the first artist signed to Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock label, said: “World Trod and easy wid it. Congratulations king Dutty”.

Another user, Mariatzumba, said, “The best is yet to come #ROCKSTAR RRR”.

While social media user Iranimo said: “Youth mek mi tell yuh diss… yuh mek mi feel proud as a Jamaican living in Canada.”
