Dancehall star Mr. Easy delivered a marquis performance to hundreds of screaming fans in Studio 54 in upstate New York over the weekend.

“I was surprised at the amount of people who were in the club that night, just the kind of people who turned up for me. Plus, I was happy to see the amount of people who showed up on my Instagram Live to see the performance, it was very gratifying,” Mr. Easy told DancehallMag.

He got major forwards for songs such as Funny Man, Haters and Fools, and  Man ah Say ah Who on the Rae Rae riddim and the audience cheered and waved. However, his biggest forward was reserved for Drive Me Crazy as the females took over and sang the lyrics to the hook in unison, one clear voice that reverberated throughout the club.

He also ripped up the place with Rain Again on the Showtime riddim.

He also did new songs such as Guarantee and his latest hit, Conquer the World from his forthcoming Legendary album.

The nine-track effort will showcase his versatility, delving into genres such as Afrobeats, ‘foundation reggae’, and dancehall. Legendary is set for a late November release.

As a teen, Mr Easy migrated to New York from Trelawny, Jamaica, bringing with him a love of reggae and dancehall music and culture, which has served as a creative driving force since his ’90s debut.

He has the distinction of being the first reggae singer to perform at the famous Showtime at the Apollo. A notable viewer was the producer Quincy Jones, who was inspired to sign Mr. Easy for a recording contract.

Signed to Jones’ Qwest label, he released his debut in 1994, the well-received album Call Me Mr. Easy.

By 1995, his career was firmly established. It was at this time that Mr. Easy’s manager approached Dave “Rude Boy” Kelly to produce the singer in sessions alongside the Mad House crew.

Mr. Easy was recruited alongside Wayne Wonder, Frisco Kid, Spragga Benz, Alley Cat, Baby Cham, and Textra to perform as part of Kelly’s Mad House crew. Since Mr. Easy’s initial association with Kelly the clique had become known as Alias where he scored hits such as Murder on the popular Bruk Out riddim, Funny Man on the Joy Ride riddim in combination with Baby Cham. The singer blew up with Rain Again, the most popular tune on the Showtime riddim.

He has continued to score hits such as Privacy and Bashment Gal which has racked up 2.6 million views on YouTube.
