Veteran Dancehall artist Mr. Lexx respectfully called out American producer DJ Khaled for working with only a few Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall artists.  The We The Best CEO is currently in Jamaica working on at least one confirmed “historic” collaboration with Buju Banton, Barrington Levy, Capleton, and Bounty Killer for his upcoming album Khaled Khaled.

In deleted Tweets yesterday, Lexx criticized Khaled for working with only a select few artists and friends, some of whom he had previously collaborated.

“Dear DjKhalid (sic), Just letting you know they’re a lot more artists in Jamaica #Respectfully,” Mr. Lexx wrote in one Tweet.

In a second tweet, Lexx went further and slammed DJ Khaled’s previous Jamaican collaborations as duds.  “Every time Kahlid (sic) come yah a di same artist dem him use and di song dem nah hit,” he wrote. “Kmt yea I said it.”

Khaled’s last Jamaican project was Holy Mountain, which was the lead single off his Father of Asahd album in 2019.  Holy Mountain featured Buju Banton, Sizzla, Mavado, and 070 Snake and peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

This isn’t the first time that Mr. Lexx has singled out DJ Khaled and Buju Banton.  In December 2018, the deejay joked about the reception he received at the Norman Manley International Airport at a time when other artists were receiving grand welcomes.  “Jus touch dung ina di airport… Not one screaming fan in sight… Buju, Khalid and Drake gone wid dem… kmt awwwww well. mi gone a me yard yah… ??‍♂️,” the Cook singer wrote at the time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lexx’s most recent comments sparked a debate among Jamaican fans, with most accusing the Full Hundred deejay of simply being jealous and “badmind”.

“Watch badmind 😂,” quipped several users on Instagram.

Some called the criticism unwarranted since this will be Khaled’s first time collaborating with some of the artists and there’s also speculation that he will be working with Grammy kid Koffee.  Khaled has also met with rising Jamaican stars such as Blvk H3ro and 10Tik.

“Lies cause he added Barrington Levy, bounty and Capleton the last time was Buju , Sizzla and Mavado 😂😂,” one user wrote.  “And what is the problem if he wanna use the same artist unuh find a problem with everything.”

Another added, “Buju, bounty, Barrington levy, Capleton, KOFFEE!!!!!???? Also. He always pays homage to where he came from.”

Other fans pointed to Khaled’s contribution to the culture and his decades-old friendships with some of the Jamaican artists he has worked with.

“When nuhbady neva did a give him a fwd a dem artiste Deh buss him back in the early 90s. Also u sound very very vex and bad mine. STAP it man,” said one fan.

“Imagine coming to Jamaica, and hanging out with your friends and then get cuss se you always a hangout with your friends 😐,” wrote one Instagram user.

“Them artist deh did give him forwud when him just a start,” said one Instagram user.

However, Mr. Lexx’s statements were supported by a few.

Anytime someone speak the truth ppl always say a badmind smh,” said one.  “But it ain’t a lie thou 🤣🤣🤣 i still love Khaled’s energy,” added another.

Another added, “He’s not bad mind I like Khaled but Lexx is telling the truth.”

Mr. Lexx, whose real name is Christopher George Palmer, is best known for his hit songs Full Hundred, Cook, Ring Mi Cellie and his feature on Wayne Wonder’s Anything Goes with American hip-hop duo Capone-N-Noreaga.

In August 2020, he dropped his Touch Down EP with several up-and-coming artists.
