On Khanice Jackson’s Killer: ‘Dead, Dem Fi Dead’ Says Popcaan In Jungle Justice (Part Twice)

Jungle Justice (Part Twice) is a gory, hard-hitting single, the type Popcaan reserves for the lowest kind of criminal — “raper bwoy, pedophile, child molester”. The track may be trending, but the idea is hardly new, as the deejay has made his no-nonsense stance on violence against women known for years.

Some disturbing news jolted Popcaan from the dizzying success of his once in a lifetime collab with Beres Hammond, God Is Love. 20-year-old Khanice Jackson’s decomposing body was discovered last Wednesday, sparking national outcry in Jamaica. The accounting clerk was raped and murdered days after being reported missing, prompting the Unruly Boss to lash out at the unnerving act.

At first, his outrage overflowed in a series of posts that were later deleted by Instagram for “violence and incitement”. This only angered the Firm and Strong deejay who clapped back at the move before turning his personal expressions into something more permanent.

“Look like ig support rapist to unu go delete the whole bloodc—t account and not just the video, and go suck unu muma!!!!!”, he said in his Twitter rant.

Hours later the 876 GUD delivered the goods, dropping the follow-up to his 2016 song Jungle Justice, also inspired by similar events. “Weh di lass dem deh, gas dem deh, tire/ Jungle justice no machine nah fire/ P—y love kidnap gyal, alright kidnap him/ Everybody inna di community chop him/ Dig out him eye dem, toenail, mob him”, Popcaan spits on the track.

From the opening line on Part Twice, it’s obvious his agenda hasn’t changed — “dead dem fi dead”.

The Silence deejay fills the pulsing Dane Ray beat with one brutal bar after another: “Any bwoy rape gyal dead dem fi dead/ One thousand killy ah go chop out yuh head… Dead bwoy, dead clean/ No tongue, no teeth/ From yuh kidnap a woman bwoy fi lef yuh brain a leak/ Bun dem alive, chop dem up fine ah street/ Dem doh need no coffin, nuh wreath…”

Popcaan pauses the grimy details for a minute to seek answers from the government, as well as reassure victims, regionally and worldwide.

“Nuff young girl ah go missing, di list long/ so much goddamn unanswered question/ Where is Jasmine Dean from fi wi land, Ashanti Riley from Trinidad?/ Woman get rape and abuse worldwide/ Lose dem self esteem an pride/ Baby mi love yuh same way, you’re fine/ Stay pure in yuh heart and mind,” he spits.

The track’s artwork completes the crude message – a figure is seen suffering a fiery fate as Molotov cocktails are thrown to keep the blaze lit.

Interestingly, Unruly camp protégé Quada is currently caught in a legal battle over the same thing.  The Celebration singer is accused of murder and arson in relation to the 2019 mob killing of Miguel Williams, who was beaten before being set ablaze over the abduction and murder of eight-year-old Shantae Skyers. It may be mere coincidence, and with the trial outcome pending after several delays, it’s unlikely we’ll see a joint track on the matter from Popskull and the Brawlin Murda deejay anytime soon.

Meanwhile, seeing Popcaan enraged and emotionally bare moved fans to show their appreciation in the comments.

“Respect poppy fi stand up fi the ladies dem ❤ some bwoy naah dweet 🤚🏾 NUFF LOVE MI ARTIST” said one gratified female fan, while another user who welcomed the call to action wrote, “Bless up fi da one ya mi gena. Realest artist out there right now. Movement need to start, far too much strong words with no action #hengingtree”.
