Dancehall deejay Macka Diamond is celebrating the latest acknowledgement of her long-standing career and talent after the Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, proclaimed March 12, 2021 ‘Macka Diamond Day’.  Macka revealed that she was also given the Key to the City.

Proclamations in Cincinnati can be requested by citizens subject to the approval of Mayor John Cranley for the purposes of “public awareness, charitable fundraising, and arts and cultural celebrations.”  Musicians who were previously and similarly honored by Cincinnati, after performances at shows or festivals within the city limits, include rocker Jack White, Sir Elton John, Lionel Richie, and actress/singer Jennifer Hudson.

Macka Diamond excitedly shared the news on Instagram in a post to her 150,000 followers with a video clip of the proclamation certificate which was framed.

“Help me celebrate again my #moneydiamonds. I now hold the key to #cincinnati March 12 2021 is now #MACKADIAMONDDAY yayyyy thx to all my #moneydiamonds,” she wrote in the caption.

The Dye Dye singer also spoke with Irie Fm’s Music News, earlier today, March 15, where she shared that she was in Cincinnati for a show.

“The promotor called me and said to me ‘you know there’s some people here who want to interview you on the radio and they want to setup some time for you.’ So I said ok no problem,” Macka said.

“And then she said, ‘oh guess what Macka, they called and said they wanna give you the key to the city.’ I said what’s that. They have a show they gonna call it ‘Macka Diamond’s Day'”

At first, she thought that it was some sort of joke but when she saw how many people came out to support her, she was touched by the gesture. She added: “I feel good, I feel great!”

Macka Diamond is one of the few Dancehall artists looking forward to the vaccine to begin touring once again. Even as some of her colleagues have expressed consternation, she told the Jamaica Star she was ready for the shot so that she could get back to her career.

“I don’t care what nobody want seh; I am ready. I don’t eat meat, I am a vegetarian, a fruitarian, I am everything that is healthy, so my body is in good shape and ready for it,” she said. Getting the vaccine was the only way she could return to the career that she loves, she added during that interview.

She added, “I don’t want anybody to keep telling me it is wrong but cannot explain why. If them come out with a vaccine and the world can come back, and I can get back to doing my show dem, I am good with that. Right now mi hot, and the people dem a call me.”

It’s always good to feel appreciated and the Bun Him singer, who turned 50-years-old in January can add this latest recognition to her illustrious career.
