Dancehall star Beenie Man gave fans a tour of his late mother’s burial site today, in light of what would have been her 64th birthday.

The deejay is currently in Shrewsbury, St Elizabeth, the hometown of his mother, Lilieth Sewell, who died in September after fighting a long battle with recovering from a series of strokes.

A video of a disoriented Beenie Man at Sewell’s graveside surfaced in October, but a complete view of her final resting place was not revealed.  Instead of the traditional burial ground, Sewell is buried inside a cozy two-story pink and white home in the community.

Beenie Man took fans into the space today via Instagram Live. Inside the house bears a red and gold theme with two red sofas, a large photo frame of Sewell, tray ceiling lighting, and a ceiling fan.

He settled inside the space then pointed to a grave at the centre of the room.

“See mi mada yah, a her birthday, she dis, yah so she lie down, yah so mi put har to rest,” he said. “This is the serious point about it. To how mi love mi mada, mi couldn’t bury har under the ground, mi haffi have har close. Mi nuh know still, mi love my mada different, mi nuh know bout no other people and dem mada, my ting different.”

He added, “It’s not a mourning session and it’s not a session to cry. It’s not a session to shed tears or nothing. It’s a session to just hold a vibes cause mi whole entire family is here… So everybody join we online, do not join us here else mi a go a jail again.”

The artiste rang in the new year at a police station after being charged with breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA) and the Noise Abatement Act in connection with an alleged illegal party in late November. He has since defended himself by saying he is no party promoter and is scheduled to appear in the St Elizabeth Parish Court on February 10.

The tour continued when he ventured downstairs and pointed to the sealed-off first story of the home, which is enclosed with a framed photo of Sewell.

“Mi madda deh right in deh so,” he said while pointing at the photo.

His DJ played music while he danced and lauded his mother.

“Nuh care how much pot cover mama fling inna mi head, nuh care how much slippers she gi mi, nuh care how much big shoes she gi mi inna mi back, she always a tell mi the right things. She always a do the right things. She always a mek certain seh mi know seh mi nuh born rich so in life yuh haffi grow up fi be that person weh fi tek care a yuh family. A she mek mi the burden-bearer a mi family.”

While family members pulled up to the function, Beenie Man also premiered a single from his upcoming Simma album. The song, Fun in the Sun, features Popcaan and Dre Island and debuted on ZIP 103FM courtesy of ZJ Rush, who joined him on the Live.

“Mi just waan big up Popcaan, mi waan big up Dre Island because a check di man dem come check mi one night enuh and decide seh, ‘Alright, you always a come check we and surprise we. We a surprise yuh’,” he told Rush. “At the time dem surprise mi, mi have a rhythm a work pon so mi a seh ‘Alright dis a weh mi deh’ and di man dem deh which part we deh and a work wid it and it’s a great feeling and mi really appreciate it.”

The track entails messages of unity and peace, themes currently being endorsed by Bounty Killer and Sean Paul.

“Inna di song mi ask for di unity of the youths dem too,” he said.

“Which part the music a come from is that unification, that’s why yuh have a Gaza, that’s why yuh have a Shocking Vibes, that’s why you have a Penthouse. So without the youths dem organise together we can’t centralise, we can’t go nowhere. We a go just kill each other and dead. Everybody a go hate each other. It don’t mek no sense.”

Simma is scheduled for release this summer and will host features with other acts including Sean Paul, Shaggy, Shenseea and Bunji Garlin.
