BET has announced that several Jamaican artistes will be featured on the 2020 iteration of its Hip Hop Awards show on Tuesday night.

Jamaican entertainers Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Koffee, Shenseea, Skip Marley and ZJ Liquid are set to be featured on the long running programme that is in its fifteenth year.

BET announced the Jamaican lineup on their Twitter page with the following post “Yuh no seh Jamaica ah run tings! 🇯🇲 Thanks to Dancehall/Soundclash culture, Hip Hop gained its competitive roots! #HipHopAwards”.

Since then they have been running promotional material with the artistes mentioned with Bounty Killer leading off doing a video shout out to the event. “Don’t miss @grunggaadzilla’s set at the @HipHopAwards TOMORROW 9/8c on @BET! 🔥 #HipHopAwards”

Dancehall kingpin Beenie Man was later announced with “Don’t miss @KingBeenieMan takeover the #HipHopAwards 🔥”

Shenseea and Koffee were similarly announced.

The grandson of the king, Bob Marley, Skip Marley was announced with  “We can’t wait to see @SkipMarley at #HipHopAwards!”

Shenseea’s stablemate ZJ Liquid was tagged with “Check out @zjliquid at the #HipHopAwards”.

Apparently, Beenie, Koffee, Shenseea, Skip and Liquid will be featured during a popular feature of the award show – the Cypher – which allows artistes to demonstrate their skills in an informal manner via freestyles.

Despite the pandemic dancehall has been on a high especially following the Verzuz battle between dancehall heavyweights Beenie and Bounty which basically transformed how the quarantined events were being showcased.

This however is not the first time that dancehall is being featured at the awards. In 2013, a set featuring Dawn Penn, Elephant Man, Chaka Demus and Pliers and Beenie Man had the crowd on their feet and partying non stop.

The award show will be carried out virtually this year in light of the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
