Skillibeng

An exciting playlist awaits as we narrow down the best new Dancehall tracks this week. Popcaan blows us away on a new track with Maroon 5 and his new Link Up EP with his OVO labelmate Preme which features some international heavyweights.

Skillibeng elevates his badness in two slick gun tunes, but Busy Signal says he’s the baddest and so is his mafia family. Tommy Lee Sparta and Intence would dare to disagree as they too exalt more gore in their badman tracks.

On a lighter note, Jaz Elise recruits Dancehall’s very gloating Govana to spice up one of her previously released tracks and Charly Black gets pretty romantic in his new single Lisa Hanna.

There is so much more to enjoy; check out our top picks this week for your Dancehall playlists, with exclusive highlights, reviews, playlists, and accompanying music videos for each below.

In no particular order:

Busy Signal – Stop Chat

Dancehall artiste Busy Signal is pretty riled in his new single Stop Chat. He’s simply sick of seeing those fake bad men out there, so “stop chat,” he says. If you want to see what a real gangster looks like, just look at him. Even his family seeds from the mafia: “Watchya, madda bad, fadda bad, sista bad, bredda bad and nuh make we get dawk like when weather bad.”

As a veteran ruffian, he imparts some knowledge on the young bloods in the business, “Real bad man nuh use Instagram or SnapChat/ Dem nuh know bout war, dem fake.”

Released on October 13, produced by Gorilla Music Source and directed by Dameon Gayle for Warrior Films, check out the single and visuals for Stop Chat here –

Gyallis duo, Jahvillani and Oven Boss are the ultimate stud muffins in their single Push To Start. The two deejays say it doesn’t take much to take your girl. Except for the fact that they’re loaded, they don’t even have to try.

Jahvi intros, “Yo a couldn’t fi me fault, make uno gyal friend a run di p** fast/ you nuh see mi full a chips like a mini mart. From mi wrist to me car…”

Skillibeng – Crocodile Teeth

Like an easy slay, Skillibeng calmly lays down his threats on piano filtered acoustics while talking about his artilleries and heavy clips, which he says is full with Crocodile Teeth. “Everyting get f** when I reach, 16 bun up bwoy skin, head top buss up and split,” he promises without trepidation.

The music video finds the Eastsyde Records’ front-liner in the midst of a ghetto capital, surrounded by decrepit homes and screw-faced thugs, donning their deadly weapons.

Released on October 12, by executive producer Johnny Wonder and producer Adde Instrumentals, check out Skillibeng in Crocodile Teeth, shot by Simeon Hedge here –

Extortion, scamming, kidnapping – nothing is off-limits as Elegance attains his Stacks Pan Stacks. Then in other scenes he makes money rain and drives around the latest high-end cars while singing about his Rolex and other iced out jewels.

Popcaan & Maroon 5 – Nobody Love Remix

Adam Levine from American Band, Maroon 5 intertwines his sweet falsetto tones with Dancehall’s unruly boss, Popcaan for the remix of his previously released single Nobody Love.

The original track, which released in July is an addictive love song. Now Poppy leaves his romantic impressions, effecting some pretty intense emotions while getting to the point. “Pull up like JayZ and Beyonce, hold dah ring yah mi fiancé. … Probably cant give you my life but me can give you my love,” he serenades.

Jaz Elise Featuring Govana – Fresh & Clean (Remix)

“We are kings and queens, we are fresh and clean” … Jaz Elise sings on the revised hook of her track with Dancehall deejay Govana. The single anthems the concept “fresh and clean” to boaster their modernized gears and in Govi Govi’s case his “nuff money” and cologne collection, he says in his segment of the track.

The music video captures a story of perseverance, where a boy’s dream of becoming a skilled BMX stunt rider is endeavoured. Other scenes capture the two artistes in picturesque locales across the island and the lush estates of Hope Zoo, where Protoje makes his cameo.

Released on October 16, produced and directed by Dezign Studios on behalf of In.Digg.Nation Collective/Six Course Music/RCA Records, check out Jaz Elise and Govana in Fresh & Clean here –

Quada – Richer Than Rich

Dancehall artiste Quada isn’t about to go back to living in a zinc house or sleeping on the floor… this he says in his new single Richer Than Rich. He’s adamant about ‘staying rich’ so all who can’t handle his success are issued some figurative threats – “Don’t make me put the red beam pon yuh forehead.”

Released on October 13, produced by Grim YG (YG Records) on the Go Off Riddim, listen to the official audio of Richer Than Rich here –

Intence – Nuh Talk Long

The prolific Intence is back this week ripping his new tune Nuh Talk Long. “Murda mi deal wid mi dawg, mi nuh talk long,” he sings to reveal the concept of the track in scrambled high-pitch notes.

The music video shows the deejay donning a new hairdo, executing his vicious verses in gloomy weather and for the most part parring alone and void of his usual crew.

Tommy Lee Sparta – Enemy Missed

Leave it to the Goth general, Tommy Lee Sparta to perpetrate fear and intimidation like a pro. Enemy Missed personifies an untouchable character that is Lee, always packing and ready for the kill.

He says it’s a ‘party tonight’ but beware… “You know the Sparta code, one spliff under mi fire then mi gone a road, full a money but fi dead mi cant afford. Wi trigger finger jump to life … why you think we carry the machine in a mi shorts a nuh sword.”

Skillibeng – Bad Man Thing

Dancehall deejay Skillibeng says it’s a top ranking Bad Man Thing, releasing another track this week. In the single, he describes his guns of choice and metaphorically personifies a particular character to execute the killings: “Like pregnant gyal mi point and spit… eye lock-down like Chinese, one clip pon chop stick you will vanish or go pon fridge, to airport mi sey you marrow go’out. Mi will bomb you house, Osama Bin Laden a nuh chatting …”

With a smooth dishing of rhymes, the deejay paints a vivid murder scene on a whimsical violin teasing riddim on a heavy hitting base.

Charly Black – Lisa Hanna

When you look and smile like former beauty queen Lisa Hanna, you bet that’s a huge compliment. This is the premise of Charly Black’s new single Lisa Hanna, which features his “Ethiopian queen.”

While he lathers his beau with even more praises: “So wonderful, you’re so divine, you make me blush every time, you smile like Lisa Hanna and you make me wanna come wine up pon you, girl your skin smooth like Martha Brae River,” the two lovebirds bask in a secluded and lush outback with several striking geographies.

Liquid, Konshens & Verse Simmonds – Hard To Love You

On this mega collab, Verse Simmonds sets soulful R&B registers while syncing some melodic deejaying chops to meet the flows of his collaborators Konshens and ZJ Liquid.

“It’s not Hard To Love You”, Verse croons on the hook. Konshens says he’s not what you’d call “lovey lovey” but there is something about her energy that makes him more trusting. Liquid takes on the third segment of the track, telling his love interest she is his type, not the black stallion to keep him up at nights but more so marriage material.

Released on October 14, produced by INgrooves on behalf of H2O Records, check out more of Hard To Love You here –
