Popcaan’s 2020 breakout success got another boost today with the release of both his first OVO EP Link Up and guest verse on Maroon 5’s Nobody’s Love Remix.

Both efforts currently have the internet abuzz, showcasing the St. Thomas native’s steady rise to mainstream recognition. The Unruly Boss has had a busy year, dropping an album plus countless collabs with the likes of Jorja Smith and Protoje, before rounding out the year with these huge projects. Fans, critics, and newbies alike will no doubt have a field day getting familiar with the latest from this considerably gifted deejay.

Racking up over 150K views in its first day alone, it’s safe to say Popcaan’s Maroon 5 collaboration is a sonic success. Penned as an ode to these tumultuous times, the band added black, green, and gold smileys to the covert art on YouTube for Popcaan’s debut. Never one to disappoint, the 876 GUD adds an apt, entrancing verse to the currently trending track.

“Baby girl, mi wi die fi you / Wonder if yuh woulda die fi me / Mi baby mi give it ah try fi you, give it ah try fi me / You ah di type weh mi like doh / Keepin’ mi warm when di night cold / Your love not givin’ away/ My love not givin’ away/ Pull up like JAY-Z and Beyoncé/ Wul dah ring yah mi fiancée / Try mi best nuh get di queen angry / Yuh so pretty, all di crayon seh/ Probably cyan give yuh my life / But mi can give yuh my love/ Give yuh my, give yuh my, give yuh my, give yuh my / Give yuh my love.”

Also high on the radar for this weekend’s music debut’s is Popcaan and Preme’s Link Up EP. The six-song suite features appearances by Davido, BEAM, French Montano as well as Wiz Khalifa on the sultry tune, Wining Queen.

The latter has already become a fan favorite, a likely result of the global lockdown blues — “Girl weh yuh deh mi cyah see yuh, she wanna rock the boat like Aaliyah,” Preme spits.

While it’s too eary to gauge the overall impact of Popcaan’s international feats, its a safe call that these binge-worthy bangers are crossover history in the making.
