It wasn’t his time.

In what could have been a catastrophic situation for dancehall artiste Hydal, narrowly cheating death after escaping a near-fatal explosion has left him feeling thankful to be alive. He is breathing a sigh of relief and is now on the mend.

The Like Woah entertainer recalled the September 21 incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Manor Park, St Andrew. He was on the set of a video shoot and taking a lunch break. While eating his meal, seated on a bench outside a well-known plaza, the sound of an explosion rang out and he was thrown from the bench, hitting the ground. While in a state of disorientation caused by the blast, Hydal felt pieces of shrapnel covering his body, several pieces in his back, which was sent flying from the front windows in the blast. The blast drew a crowd and investigations found that the source of the blast was an unoccupied restaurant on the Manor Park premises.

“Imagine I leave my house to go to a video shoot and end up in an action movie because all now I can’t believe this really happened but give thanks to the Almighty because I could have died but it was not my time. Thankfully no one else was injured,” the Jamaica Observer reported that the Spanish Town-based artist exclaimed.

Hydal was able to drive himself to the Mahony Health and Fitness at the Winchester Business Centre in Kingston, momentarily disoriented and in pain from the pieces of glass stuck in his skin. He received treatment for his injuries and was placed under observation for a couple of hours.

Thankful to have survived the ordeal, Hydal is still feeling some discomfort and received instruction to stay on a week’s bed rest. He’s also focused on how to proceed with handling the matter of the responsible party taking accountability for his near-death experience.

“Since the incident, I have been at home resting. My management team has been making sure my affairs are in order, and I have also contacted our attorney to determine the way forward with this matter,” he expressed.

Like Woah and Rental are two of Hydal’s best-known singles. In June, the trio of Hydal, Kemar Highcon, and Konshens dropped a hot video for Like Woah, a nod to the flashy lifestyle, girls, parties, and a rocking good time. All three did their part to make the track a stellar performance and the visuals behind the lyrics are just the icing on the cake.

Let’s hope that the singer will remember his own words of determination as he recovers from his injuries, “To be successful is learning to adapt to any situation in life…,” which he had posted on his Instagram account in the month prior to the blast incident.

As the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall alum moves forward, expect to see new work from him as he gets ready to release several new projects, which includes a new single titled BMW – Bad Man Wagon.

Let’s wish him a speedy recovery.
