Dancehall songstress D’Angel jumped into the election season in Jamaica when she did a dubplate for the incumbent Jamaican Labour Party’s (JLP) Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn.

Cuthbert-Flynn is defending a 2,062 vote margin in West Rural St. Andrew against newcomer Krystal Tomlinson, the current fiance of D’Angel’s famous ex-husband Beenie Man.  Though, it seems that this was not a consideration for D’Angel agreeing to do the dubplate as she says she’s for hire and has no loyalties to any one party.

During an interview with Onstage last weekend, the singer revealed that she has even asked the People’s National Party (PNP), the other major party, if they needed any work done. D’Angel stated that she’s an entertainer and that creating these types of dubplates is simply work.

Several other prominent artistes like Shenseea, Masicka, and Alkaline have been admonished by some of their counterparts, like Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, and Tanya Stephens.  The critics of the dubplates believe that politics and Dancehall should not be mixed, especially when support for the genre has been lacking.

D’Angel said that she was proud of her dubplate as it had gone viral, which she expected.

“All me do, something link me fe do the work, me do meh work and just so it dey,” she continued: “ah work me ah do,” she said.

D’Angel added that she and Tomlinson both share a good relationship and that there were no hard feelings between them.

Meanwhile, Tomlinson has secured dubplates from Kemar Highcon, Quada, and of course, Beenie Man.
