From the visuals to the setlist, Jamaican singer Chronixx executed a beautifully arranged virtual concert on Sunday evening, sharing the title of his newest release, Cool As the Breeze.

The YouTube and Facebook live-streamed event was not just a toast to the genre-bending song (also called Friday) but also the mood for the over 90-minute performance, which was held at an undisclosed location on the north coast. The stage was built in a pool that overlooked the sea and infinite grey skies, all serving as the canvas for Chronixx’s journey from a Spanish Town youth to an international act, now gliding on water and drifting through the clouds.

Alongside the masterful Zinc Fence Redemption Band, Chronixx started his story with Dela Move, the wavy ode to his hometown, which will form part of his upcoming sophomore album, Dela Splash. After blessing his roots, he honoured his musical foundation by singing Big Bad Sound, which features his father and veteran singer Chronicle. The track is featured on Chronixx’s 2017 debut album, Chronology, and provided passes for a sweet trip down the Grammy-nominated memory lane.

The groovy Spanish Town Rockin’ kickstarted some early skanking, and Chronixx’s playful yet brilliant rendition of Majesty was just one of several highlights of his musicality.

Ghetto Paradise seamlessly segued into Ghetto People, which left the rhythm open for guest performer Kabaka Pyramid to enter with Well Done. As streaks of a distant sunset gave the set a celestial feel, the Rastafarians debuted Same Prayer, which will appear on Dela Splash. The song could easily become its own sweet kumbaya, with a theme of spirituality and peace. Chronixx yelled a hearty “reggae music!” before dropping Skankin’ Sweet, which reaped an encore before he got through the first line.

Some Free Nationals magic entered the space with Chronixx’s rendition of Eternal Light, which featured a mash-up of Dennis Brown’s Have You Ever, Bob Marley‘s Turn Your Lights Down Low, and Sizzla‘s Give Me A Try.

After performing uplifting tunes like Black is Beautiful and I Can, he revisited his 2014 Dread & Terrible project, performing songs like Here Comes Trouble and Capture Land. Jesse Royal joined this segment with Modern Day Judas, LionOrder, and a cool toasting session with his brethren.

The support of talent continued as Chronixx also brought on Lila Iké, moments after giving props to local women in music.

“Now we a get a more diverse sound and a clearer sound a come through from the sistren dem,” he said.

Iké fit the bill with Thy Will, the Sly & Robbie More Baltimore sample from her The ExPerience EP.

Chronixx gave a nod to Protoje by dropping lines from Like Royalty, his new effort featuring Popcaan. In the spirit of new music, it was only fair to unleash Cool As the Breeze and the falsettos and summer vibes hit just as hard live as on the record.

Chronixx also performed tracks, including Likes, Legend, and Loneliness, and offered his thanks via a freestyle before letting the credits roll.
