Jamaican dancehall selector Foota Hype is reportedly in frequent contact with his wife while he remains in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at an immigration holding facility in Miami, Florida.

There were rumors that the selector’s wife had filed for divorce and that he was facing deportation for this reason.

But a source told the Jamaica Observer today that Foota Hype has been in close contact with his wife who will be in court to support the entertainer. “He has been in frequent contact with his wife, they are good. She will be in court to support him once ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] grants him a court date. The lawyer said it would take anywhere between 30 to 60 days to get a court date,” the source said.

“Even though Foota and his wife may be estranged, they have been in communication with each other almost every day. Foota Hype is not under any removal or deportation order so he is just waiting to be assigned a court date,” the source said, denying the rumors that they were divorced.

The source also noted that Foota is doing well despite being without his freedom for almost three weeks at the Krome Service Processing Center in Miami. “Foota Hype is in great spirits, laughing and joking as usual. Sometimes I have to remind myself that he is really in Krome because he’s in such good spirits. He has a clean record, he did not do anything wrong”.

Foota, 37, was arrested on December 14 at the Port Everglades Seaport when he returned to the US aboard the Independence of the Seas cruise ship which held this year’s Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise.

Another source had revealed that the entertainer, whose real name is Oneil Ricardo Thomas, was detained over his legal status in United States. “He has no status at this time in terms of a document that allows him entry to the US,” the source had said. The source also claimed that Foota could return to Jamaica at any time he wishes, but prefers to stay and fight his immigration case in court.
